Here's a few for you.......

The shortest war in history was between Zanzibar and England in 1896. Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes(Italy surrendered, just in case)

Before discovering Elvis, Colonel Tom Parker's most successful act was "Colonel Parker's Dancing Chickens". This act involved encouraging chickens to dance by placing them on an electric plate (Yes, I think I'd dance too! Mind you this would explain Elvis's hip shakin')

A 1951 British army medical report confirmed that Marmite was a good cure for scrotal dermatitis (somehow, I don't fancy my toast anymore....)

And finally....

Buzz Aldrin was the first man to defecate on the moon (but nobody remembers number two...)

APPARENTLY THE TALLEST TREE EVER RECORDED WAS AN AUSTRALIAN MOUNTAIN ASH(THE TALLEST FLOWERING TREE IN THE WORLD) IT WAS 417 FEET TALL AND PART OF ITS TOP WAS MISSING

WITH ITS TOP IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND 500 FEET TALL

IN THE REMOTE FORESTS OF SOUTH WEST TASMANIA(STYX RIVER VALLEY) THERE COULD BE TREES THAT COME CLOSE TO IT!!

OK, this one's REALLY useless: A scientist discovered that the chance that there is a God, is 66%. He was a little disappointed with the result, because he thought the chance was bigger. In his 'analysis' he used the 'amount' of suffering in the world...

I'm not kidding, I read this on a normal newsflash.

In fact, it all started with the film 'Death of a Gunfighter'. The original director didn't get along with star Richard Widmark, so he was replaced by Don Siegel. Siegel didn't want the credit, out of respect for the original director, who had already directed some of the film, but Widmark didn't want that man's name on the film, son Siegel signed with an pseudonym. After that, this pseudonym began the general standar name for directors who didn't want credit for a film. Unlike the movie that spawned this trend, wich quite good, it usually meant that the product was bad as a result of the producers taking control of the movie. This went along unoticed for several years, until the name began being too well known after Arthur Hiller shoot a movie called 'An Allan Smithee Film'... for wich he declined to take credit (it was not a publicity stunt: he asked the title to be changed to 'Burn, Hollywood Burn' in order to not give that impression). After this, 'Allan Smithee' was too widly known, so it was changed to 'Thomas Lee' for the sci-fi movie 'Supernova'. But the this name hasn't been used  since. As far as I know, Allan Smithee credits used today are usually used by artists as a post-modern joke, not because a conflict in the shooting.

Uf... talk about Monday morning and don't wanting to start working.

Napoleon was actually slightly above average height for a Frenchman of his era.Stern Smile

French "feet" were a little longer than the standard English unit, so when the English victors translated Nappy's height (from his posthumous measurement by French doctors) for history, he seemed to have been shorter than he really was.Geek

His personal Imperial guard (always around him in battle) were all big, tall men, making the Napster look shorter to casual observers.Ermm

Hey, I have to see that. Thanks for the info. Walter Hill is not the best director in the world, but he has some quite good films, so I'm sure this one had something going for it before `co-producers starting meesing around (ironically, I think Hill was producer also).

It is theoretically possible to make a cat hover.

Given the following universal absolutes:

1 - a cat always lands on it's feet
2 - toast always lands butter side down on a white carpet

If you butter a cat's paws and drop it over a white carpet (on, ELP's stage, for example), then it will be unable to land, and must therefore hover (looking - without doubt - disdainfully at it's owner, and planning bloody revenge)

Just a thought....

He did certainly NOT commit Hara-Kiri. The word "Hara-Kiri" is considered to be lower colloquial. The correct word for this kind of ritual suicide is "Seppuku" (which literally means "Stomach-cutting"). No Japanese who is about to practice this kind of suicide would call it "Hara-Kiri".

If you butter a cat's paws and drop it over a white carpet (on, ELP's stage, for example), then it will be unable to land, and must therefore hover (looking - without doubt - disdainfully at it's owner, and planning bloody revenge)

Just a thought....

You forgot something important, Jim. This only works for a TOASTED cat!

I tried the experiment with one of our cats, but it wouldn't fit into the toaster, and now I have 3 long scratches on my left arm. Ah well!

Given the following universal absolutes:

1 - a cat always lands on it's feet
2 - toast always lands butter side down on a white carpet
