http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=825 - Today I noticed that there are several Ruins albums with asterisks, and the albums with asterisks have that warning. The dreadful tab and lyrics link also have an asterisk, but the normal album pages links do not. I am almost 100% positive Ruins' page didn't use to be like this, and I've never seen this before.

What does it mean, why is it there, and what would it take to get rid of it so there isn't even more stupid clutter on the album pages?

And it makes it look like what was submitted by the album adder needs verification rather than it being the revenue-generating tabs and lyrics search addition that has the problem.  Not to sidetrack this, but I really don't care for the Lyrics and Tabs additions at all.  I know that the admin are quite strict about not sharing such things in the fora, and one has to question the legality of many of these sites that this site is enabling others to search, and I don't like it because it makes it look like the one who added the album included those fields. I don't know that we should be condoning what some of those sites do that this site helps, has helped, to advertise.  If it must be kept to make this site commercially viable, then it should be separated to make it explicitly clear that this info was not provided by the submitter.  Though I'd rather it gone altogether, perhaps there would be a way to remove all tabs/lyrics links to which the warning would apply.

I know I'm not pleased to have that kind of stuff added into something that I prepared for the site (which can be very time consuming for us).

For a site which the content owes so much to volunteers, I find the commercialism (ads) rather too blatant and I feel it gets too high-billing.  I do, however, recognise that the owners should be fairly compensated for all of their work on this site, and that this site is very expensive to run, and it does provide a great service.

Anyway, sorry for going off on a tangent.  It will be interesting to hear what those who are in the know have to say about the question.

I agree with you on the hypocritical lyrics search, and I made a thread about that, but not many people seemed to care.

But what confuses me about the asterisks is that I didn't see it when I added http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=25743 - this album , and while RussianKrieg has not made any posts on the forum, that's no reason to mess up the aesthetics of the page with an asterisk and ugly warning.

I understand.  I leaped to a wrong conclusion about why the albums might have been tagged with asterisks and why the related warning.  Inanely, since the tab and lyrics links album title has asterisks (which is merely a direct result of the album having asterisks as that's an automated action) I though that might be the specific sections which the warnings referred to (as in don't try these links because PA has not verified them.  A very silly thing for me to even think.  I don't know how or why the albums get tagged with warnings/ asterisks -- the why I can guess at (a cautionary warning).  I don't know if it's flagged by site monitors or is an automatic process for certain types of user, or if it the system automatically uses other data to correlate results. I'd put my mind to it myself, but my kids are very demanding now (and rightfully so), and will be interested to hear the reason.

Now there's a VBScript error and I can't see any albums!

It seems so. And the player disappeared. There are links to individual tracks in its place... Confused

I reported it in the bugs section: forum_posts.asp?TID=63037 - Something's wrong with bands' entries...

I think the player thing is an improvement, you can still flip through a bands discography without disturbing you listening to a track.
