my criteria is: the album on which the orchestration has the biggest & best impact. it is VERY hard to chose: maybe renaissance - song for all seasons ------------- [HEADPINS - LINE OF FIRE: THE RECORD HAVING THE MOST POWERFUL GUITAR SOUND IN THE WHOLE HISTORY OF MUSIC!> |

For me its probably Rick Wakemans "Journey to The Center of the Earth"
I like the orchestra's work with Wakeman, probably because he is very
classical and orchestral himself, so he blends in perfectly... ------------- no great genius has existed without a touch of madness... |

The "Ashes..." and "...Card" LPs are Renaissance at or close to their peak. The "New Symphony" Caravan stuff was much better, IMO, on the Fairford Halls 1974 album ------------- I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there..... |

out of this collection i cannot chose, since a lot of thing i have not heard. however my faves are: 1. YES magnification, MILES DAVIS - sketches of spain 2. YES time and word 3. DEEP PURPLE concerto, MOODY BLUES in search ...

From the poll list, I'd go for Atom Heart Mother, but there are many not in the list. A couple of excellent Prog albums including orchestra are: TRIUMVIRAT - "Illusions On A Double Dimple" (Cologne Opera House Orchestra) BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO - "...di Terra" (Orchestra of the Rome musicians' union) Actually, the orchestra in "di Terra" is not backing; it is a major part of the music, which I define as 'modern classical'. The same could be argued, albeit to a lesser extent, for the 'Atom Heart Mother' piece.

Absolutely agree! From the list I chose Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth. ------------- And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Can I vote for Kansas: 'Always Never The Same' please... it would be even better if they took out the awful version of 'Eleanor Rigby', which does nothing whatsover to push back the frontiers of music, but you can't have everything!! ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. Il Paese Dei Balocchi indeed, as mentioned by DallasBryan. But I voted for Renaissance: the orchestra is really an integral part of their sound and takes their music to enormous heights om Scheherazade, Live At Carnegie Hall and Novella. |
