Still think Baku should have won, otherwise congratulations, it's fantastic!
It'll make me skip sleeping for three weeks, though...

Congrats to Brazil. I had mixed feelings about the Olympics in Chicago. Chicago is only about 5 hours away, so I think that I would have probably made an effort to go as either a spectator or as a volunteer. The Olympics is one of those once in a lifetime events that I think would be neat to be a part of. The Olympics in Rio will be watched from the confines of my family room, and I will be more than glad to save the expense that I would have incurred travelling to and staying in Chicago.

Bob, How far are you from London for the 2012 Olympics?

About 400 miles or so (a short hop in US terms!).
For the Olympics, the team is Great Britain (oddly, not the United Kingdom). For the Commonwealth Games, the constituent countries of the UK enter enter as separate nations. The 2012 games are therefore hosted by Great Britain (The UK) while the 2014 games are hosted by Scotland.

I'm quite happy about Rio getting it for a few reasons. First, this is the first time for South America. Second, I'm in the same time zone so I can watch the games live. Third, all other countries hosted an Olympic games in recent history And last but not least are the multitudes of good-looking Brazilian ladies bound to make many appearances on camera.

I am looking forward to that. We need both jobs and half naked female beach volleyball players here in Glasgow. That would give the foxes something to watch.........

The right decision for the right reasons - roll on Rio 2016, and maybe we could have a RIO festival there as well!

I didn't want it in Chicago. From what I hear, it is always a nightmare for the host city, and I don't think we can afford building a whole new complex at the moment...

Don't imagine that Romania, for instance, will build its chance anytime sooner.

What? Springfield lost again?
Sadly yes. What are they going to do with all those hats and t-shirts with their mascot that they had made up?

I thought it was going to be a futuristic RIO thread or something...

It wishes that 2016 year become a wonderful year for people in Brazil from Japan.
The opinion of Tokyo might have been a little weak.

Sad that while we celebrate here people are a bit unhappy in Tokyo, Madrid and Chicago although I'm sure it'll be forgotten soon... worse are the areas where natural disasters hit in Southeast Asia and Oceania and the casualties and losses don't cease to grow. Not fair!
