two album covers were done for gg's "octopus" - one was roger dean (i think), the other, as per my avatar, was done:

1. by whom ?

2. any idea as to where that particular original artwork is, if it's still in existence ?

1. Painting was by Charles White.

Yep, and the US one is better, IMHO. The Dean one is far too brooding for what I've always considered to be a fun, quirky album.

You have got to be kidding, the Dean cover walks all over the crappy American one

I think I get Trouser's point. The Dean painting is more appealing in and of itself, but he's right: it doesn't really fit the mood of the album.

Deff. the American one is better.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

What I would like to know, is why the art was changed for the US release?

I have the dean cover, (I think, it's not the one with a jar) and I think it's wonderful! Much better than the US-cover!
