Hello from France! I recently began listening to Prog and, wow! What a change! Until a few months ago, I mostly had black metal albums in my music library and, completely out of curiosity, listened to some Yes. Parents used to be big Pink Floyd fans but never gave it much attention until recently, huge mistake  My favorite bands so far are : Yes, King Crimson, Camel (oh, how I love Camel! HOW I LOVE CAMEL, there, said it), Hawkwind, Genesis, Caravan, Emerson Lake & Palmer and Phideaux. As you can see, I've only scraped the surface. That's one of the reasons I've joined the forum, get recommendations and chat with people on this fantastic website! See you around  |

Apologies, I don't have a last FM. My favorite artists are -YES -Marillion -Genesis -Peter Gabriel -Porcupine Tree -Jon Anderson -Chris Squire -Emerson, Lake and Palmer -Pink Floyd -Opeth And thats about it! -Joel -------------

Hey dude. I traveled a similar musical journey. Three years ago, I listened to almost exclusively metal, but now I am open to almost anything. I still listen to Peste Noire and Gorguts, but the majority of my metal listening has passed.  I don't know if you know bands from your country but there are a lot of good french bands, like Ange (If you don't know Ange, check it http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=595 - now !) and http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=580 - Atoll . There are also a lot of bands from Québec singing in french.

Oh my. The transition from metal agression to the more sophisticated and subtle waters of the musical universe is an interesting one. And, if you prefer owning your music, rather expensive as well. Don't be surprised if you'll suddenly start enjoying fusion and jazz as well after a bit - but for now you already have a new universe or three to explore it seems. Regarding Gainsbourg, he was suggested for addition based on the album 'histoire de mélodie nelson' (see here http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=60711 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=60711 ). For the record, the rule is that if a non-prog artist recorded at least one full prog album, he can be added to PA. I was listening to the album together with Tuzvihar when the suggestion spread into our mind...
