If you put a nail into a can of Coke, it will dissolve in 4 days. Not sure if Pepsi will do the same thing, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Coke simply lacks the fizz and the "passion", tasting thus like sewer coca-cola.

According to this page the oxide film that normally protects aluminum from corrosion would not function inside a coke can due to pH and lack of oxygen. So, if coke were really that strong, then it would toast the can too.

AWESOME FIZZY DRINK FACT:
There's a line in The Kinks Lola that uses the phrase "tastes just like cherry-cola - la la la la la Lo-la"
It was originally to have said "Co*a Col*" but apparently the Corporation took out an injunction to prevent the band from quoting their product in what they probably thought to have been a 'dubious' song.

Anyway, I can tell the difference betwix Coke & Pepsi, but couldn't tell you which was which and have no preference - they are both pretty rank if you stop and actually taste what you are glugging - I only drink them when I'm "designated driver" and most pubs and clubs sell that reconstituted syrup muck "on tap" that tastes like soap anyway. It's the best cola for making a bambus (bamboo).
Bamboo is no.1 drink when going to party somewhere on the Croatian coast! Some people may be drinking beer, some will drink wine, some will drink some soft drinks..but 'bamboo' is a mixture of red (sometimes white) wine with cola in a any ratio from 1:4 to 3:4, up to personal taste. Some people are drinking 'white bambus' which is white wine with Fanta, but I don't like it that much.

They are both bad news along with most soft drinks. If you do drink them make sure you don't take vitamin C. Both Coke and Pepsi contain sodium benzoate. When you mix ascorbic acid (vitamin C) with sodium benzoate you get benzine. Benzine is a petroleum product.
Defination for benzine from 'Answers.com'

derived from petroleum and used in or to manufacture a wide variety of
chemical products, including DDT, detergents, insecticides, and motor
fuels. Also called benzine, benzol."

Excessive cola consumption can lead to anything from mild weakness to profound muscle paralysis, doctors are warning.
anyway,
Coke by a mile, but it has to be the coke made with real sugar instead of corn syrup.
I think that it's generally wise not to drink "sugar water" when you're thirsty. I doubt that the caffeine is a problem, there are even studies which show that it can prevent heart problems.
I used to drink a lot of diet coke ... but I don't anymore because I want to avoid sweeteners since they mess with the insulin regulation. My drink of choice is currently iced tea with low levels of sugar (250 calories per liter, regular cola has about twice as many calories) - or pure water.
And if you can't live without the taste of cola - drink a small glass from time to time. Only drinking it occasionally even adds to the experience (at least for me).
