Besides SFAM and Images and words, which would you say is their best?

Six Degrees agreed, though I'd personally put Octovarium close behind it. Six Degrees has a monster of an epic! Thumbs Up

hmm. a little hard. It can easily be narrowed down to Awake or SDOIT.

A Change of Seasons isnt even an album.

I reeeeeally like Awake, but have recently opened up to the first disc of SDOIT, after The Glass Prison. And now that i have the full album in perspective, and listened to it earlier today, I'm going to have to go with SDOIT (with Awake just missing it)

i always have the urge to vote for Octavarium in these types of polls, because the last 2 tracks on that album are some of the best DT has ever come up with, especially the title track. But i.... i....... i just......... i just cant.......

Tough call between Six Degrees and Systematic Chaos which are the two very best imo. Problem with Six Degrees is that I mainly like the epic. The other disc is good/very good but not excellent.
Systematic Chaos counts 5 terrific songs (In the presence 1&2, Ministry, Repentance and Dark Eternal Night) and the rest is good. So I think SC is overall slightly better and I voted for that one.

Systematic Chaos is disgracefully underrated on our site by the way (3,49) and I wonder why ...

Wow, I'm gonna have a hard time to choose from here... DT makes quite a lot of my life's favourites, so I'll have to figure out the album that has the largest part that I favor.

When Day And Dream Unite: I'm still working on that one, though I've found A Fortune In Lies, Ytse Jam and The Killing Hand standing out.
Awake: One of the darker albums of DT I've heard, there are many good ones in here. My favourites: 6:00, Erotomania, Voices, The Mirror, Lie and Scarred.
Falling Into Infinity: One of the most underrated albums I've ever listened to. Favourites: From Peruvian Skies all the way to Trial Of Tears. Seriously!
Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence: Really interesting double album! I love all the songs on the first disc, but there are only certain parts of the second cd that I do quite enjoy: From between War Inside My Head to Solitary Shell.
Train Of Thought: Heavy and controversial album, by my experience. If you ask me, I'm on the positive side on this one anyway. I like all the songs, but those which really last through the test of time is: This Dying Soul, Honor Thy Father, Vacant and In The Name Of God.
Octavarium: The first album that introduced me to Dream Theater. Favourites that still last so far: The Root Of All Evil, The Answer Lies Within, Sacrificed Sons and the epic piece we all call Octavarium.
Systematic Chaos: One of the albums I've confirmed to appreciate. Favourites: I like everything in this one, though what stands out the most are In The Presence Of Enemies (pt. 1 & 2), Constant Motion and The Dark Eternal Night. (especially live versions)
A Change Of Seasons: While it's one of the best songs DT ever has written, if not the best epic one, their live tracks are what I enjoy the least.

So, my conclusion is a real challenge. My vote is really in between Falling Into Infinity, Six Degrees and Systematic Chaos. But I've got to say Six Degrees takes this one. Not because of the big epic, but that I've learned and managed to like the experimental side of DT on this one.

How can anyone vote for an album other than Awake...
I haven't been listening to a lot of DT lately due to the fact that they annoy me... but Awake is still one of my favorite METAL albums.

I don't remember a Dream Theater album called "Debut Album" hmm. Well, I suppose I can't vote, if I have never heard it. Shocked

I am messing with you. I pick Awake.

Other than SFAM And I&W.
I'll be honest, I don't think SFAM is even worthy of 5 stars anyway.

Anyway.

I vote Awake.  Too easy.

I went with Awake here.  Solid album all the way through and there's an emotional attachment as well.  I really associate the album with the dawn of the internet.  I spent a lot of time in the Pitt computer labs just after I had picked up Awake.  That CD was a frequent visitor to my headphones.  There's still a certain fondness that comes to mind every time I hear the opening drum roll.

I think I may play it right now.

To me, Dream Theater have produced three albums that should be considered classics of progressive metal. Two of them are out of vote here, the third is Awake. It added something dark and heavy to the comparetively light ingredients of Images and Words, while maintaining instrumental virtuosity and great melodies.

As for the track - Change of Seasons
As for an album, tie between Awake and Six Degrees, with Falling into Infinity as third. SFAM I don't like either

Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence: the second disc is a 42 minute voyage. And you got highlights on the first disc! (and what a production!)

Tough call.

Can you really give the vote to A Change Of Seasons, effectively a one track album?  I don't think so, which is a shame as that is one of the best tracks they've ever produced.

I'm a big fan of recent DT so for me it's close between 6DOIT, Octavarium and Systematic Chaos.  As the latter two are trailing severely I'll go with one of them.  My vote is Octavarium this time.  Could have been any of those three though.

Lyrically and sonically, SDV has got to be one of the most emotional DT songs. It is one of my favorites. It reveals a window into the dark soul of Kevin Moore. The band's talents in subtlety, a must for any great musician, really come out as well.

Awake definitely. Beats SFAM, as does Six Degrees and A Change of Seasons. Train of Thought comes close too, but SFAM is a bit better.
