I know this is probably the wrong place for this question, but I'll go ahead anywayWink

I am having enormous difficulty copying & pasting album covers to posts in the forum (I've mastered the album review - that was easy!).

Is there something I am missing here, or does it require the technical genius I don't possess? I use Firefox as my browser. All help gratefully appreciated!!Clap

I go to Amazon.com and copy their album covers.  I find this to be the easy way.  When I try other sites I seem to usually get a red x.  If you are trying to copy from pictures on your computer, I think that they need to be uploaded to the internet first, and then copied and paste.  I think that a lot of users use http://www.photobucket.com - www.photobucket.com to accomplish this.  I hope that this helps.

OK, that's what you should do:

-open an account with Photobucket.com;
-save your pictures in an album there;
-when you want to post a pic on the forum, copy the Direct Link (it will appear when you click on each picture in your album), then open a Post Reply window, and click on the Insert Image icon (the one that shows a tree). Then copy your link where it says "Image URL", click on OK, and you're done. Hope it was clear!

When I post up the albums on the My Musical Commute thread, I just go to the band page and:

  • right click on the album cover image
  • choose the option 'copy image location'
  • navigate to the forum thread you want to post the album cover to
  • click on the 'insert image' icon on the toolbar at the top of the text box (the 6th image across that looks like a tree)
  • click into the 'Image URL' box
  • paste the image into the box by right clicking and selecting paste
  • click ok and that should be it
I'm using Mozilla Firefox when I do this.

Raff, you may just copy the IMG Code instead of the Direct Link and insert it in your reply box and that's all. You don't need to click on the Insert Image icon and so on then.

You can also simply use the Drag & Drop function Smile

just open two different browser windows (one contains your post reply box), pick your preferred picture with the mouse and drag it to the post reply box ...

it works with Firefox at least ...

One tip to check whether the copied cover is usable is to use the [Preview Post] button before hitting [Post Reply] - if you see a red-X go find another cover to copy.

Ian - verily I say unto ye, pointeth ye mouse in the midst o' this magical imagery and presseth and holdth the rightest most button on ye mouse until a mystical menu of wonderous options shall be presented for you to gaze upon with thy wickedesth eyes...
Avatar
Halfway downeth ye ponderous menu the word "Copy" doth appear in all its regal glory - pointeth upon it with thy mousy pointer and clickest upon using the button that resides leftmost upon said furless beasty it with all thy mighte least Beelzebub's demons should spirit it away and the labours of this moment be wasted upon the shores of trivial endevour while the trials of lesser mortals for whom no woman would knowest in the comical sense are but naught in the minds of cats that doth play in the summer meadows.

Now goeth to thy Post Reply box and press the rightest most button on ye mouse once again to conjour the mystical menu and its spledourous options for the soul of Adam to chose fromst; and with the shredest of thy mind and sharpest of thine eyes locate and point at yonder "Paste" option that mayest present itself for your selection and delectstion and clicketh upon it once as thou didst once 'afore, before the hordes of Ba'al wisketeth it from before your sullen stare to dwell in the sunken pit of nefarious toil.

...behold ye picture doth reappear in the box as if commandeth by a league of impish devils and all around wilst gawp as if constrained in fit of stupor at the mercurial feats thoust didst conjour.

This is not a very clever way to use images- what happens when they disappear from the site they are linked to? If you are making a historical site, which is in essence what prog archives aims to be, shouldn't these be more permanent and held on PA's local server. Don't go off at a tangent about the legalities- makes no difference if you are displaying linked images or those held in your own database.
