Not related to the Queen album of the same name. Anyone here ever hear of the album (or the band for that matter)? I think it may be deserving of some attention up in here. Especially the last track, a 14-minute epic that will please even the most picky of you. It's a good album (granted, far from their best) with one unbelievable song from a great band. Any opinions? |

It is indeed a brilliant album. A tad over-produced IMO, but then
that's the price you pay for such gorgeous multi-layered vocal
harmonies. "And Then There Was Silence...." (the track in
question) is very much a highlight of the record, along with the likes
of "Under The Ice" (my personal favourite) and "Maiden and the Minstrel
Knight". I have long thought that BG may be suitable for inclusion on the archives, as despite having roots in power/thrash metal they are a very proggy band. Just listen to "A Night at the Opera" and it's predecessor "Nightfall In Middle-Earth" for evidence of shifting, complex compositions, musical virtuousity and epic songwriting. ------------- "Progressive Rock is the ultimate form of music" (Mikael Akerfeldt, 2003) |

Probably the only power metal band I can stand. Not sure why, they're just as cheesy and ridiculous as the rest, but I find them fun rather than irritating. Definitely power metal though, one epic song does not make a prog band guys. |

Thanks for that attempt at sardonic wit, but no-one's suggesting that
one song makes a prog band. You're entitled to your own opinion,
of course, but I believe the songwriting on both NOME and ANATO
contains decidedly prog elements. Even on earlier stuff like
Tales From The Twilight World they wear their prog influences on their
sleeve.

Nightfall I love. 
I'm only familiar with A Night at the Opera through their recent live album, and what I heard was pretty cool. I don't know enough about them yet to know if they merit inclusion on ProgArchives (Nightfall, to me, merits it, but I don't know the rest of their work well enough to say), but as far as a general "cool bands" list...absolutely!

I convinced my friend to buy that yesterday, actually. I like what I
heard of it, although their older stuff (Imaginations and Nightfall, in
particular) is better from what I've heard of it. Are you the Abbath from GS? I didn't know you posted here, cool. |

For the overproduction, you can sorta expect it when you have over 120 tracks for 1 song. I don't know if they're suitable for Prog Archives, because they've been speed/power for a lot longer (ever ANATO is not really prog). A great band nevertheless. |
