Pretty cool, I certainly approve of this change. However, it brings about a big list of post-rock bands that need to be added on here. Where to begin?

Well Chorus... I thought about what you said and decided that you're right. I removed a few of the bands that probably wouldn't qualify as prog from the list.

I love post-rock and could add many bands to that list, however I don't think post-rock is a sub-genre of prog at all... So I'm skeptical about adding the genre, since people will expect any band falling under that label to be added to the archives, whether they have a relation to prog or not. Hmm...

That's why the bands I suggested are all bands I would consider prog.

You would maybe, not me. I've heard all the bands on that list, and while I really like most of them, few if any have anything to do with prog. Labradford for instance, can you give me even one characteristic of prog that they have?

The same way that GYBE is. Their songs may not change in such an extreme way, but their compositions are still quite dynamic, and also like GYBE they have an almost krautrock-esque kind of minimalism thoughtout their music. They may not be prog in the traditional sense, but I'd venture to say that this site is looking beyond the traditional sense at this point.

That's exactly the point I made in my first post. Since GYBE is included, people will stretch to label something prog by looking for similarities to that band instead of smiliarities to the actual genre...
To continue using Labradford as an example (by the way, I do like this band), I can't imagine that anybody would listen to them and think of progressive rock...they share no common characteristics. Quite dynamic compositions? Krautrock-esque kind of minimalism? Come on, that's really stretching don't you think? You could make the same vague connections with almost any kind of music...
You'll have to do better than that to convince me, and hopefully the site Admin too.

Well personally I would never have thought of GYBE or any Krautrock bands as prog until I got to this site, so I'm really just shooting into the dark here. If you'd like to disregard everything I've ever said up to this point, please feel free. In fact, let's all join in and ridicule points I make! Hurray!!!!!!!!111111

Sorry, I'm a bit moody tonight. I just don't see how it having tons of changes in the structure and noticeable similarities to krautrock is "stretching it". Maybe prog isn't the first genre that would come to mind when listening to them, but that doesn't mean they can't fit under it.

And thanks, I've been pressing for a few of these bands (Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, A Silver Mt. Zion and Slint, mostly) to get added for quite awhile, hopefully this new subgenre will at least help speed that along.

Well thanks for considering my opinion, I can't remember what other bands were on there to be honest, but thanks all the same.

Anyway, I may have sounded harsh before, but I certainly won't mind if the admin do agree with any of your suggestions. Exposing more prog fans to music I like can only be a good thing.
