Just searched on the DP page on our site and couldn't find a list topic like this. Maybe it has been done in the past but that must have been a few years ago. So high time for this one now. This is mine:
1. Highway Star
2. Child in Time
3. Black Night (live)
4. Strange kind of woman (live in Tokyo '72)
5. You fool no one
6. Lazy
7. Burn
8. Speed King
9. Hush
10. Fireball
I know I left out two famous songs, Smoke on the Water and Woman from Tokyo but those two have faded on me alas. The first five stick out for me. What's yours ?

1. Lazy. Made in Japan. 2. Child in Time. Ditto. 3. Space Truckin'. Ditto. 4. Black Night. Ditto. 5. Highway Star. Ditto. 6. The Mule. Ditto. 7. Mistreated. Though the live Rainbow version of that is far superior. 8. Speed King. Made in Japan. 9. Soldier of Fortune. 10. Lucille. Made in Japan.
Actually, if you give me the remastered version of Made in Japan, I'm completely satisfied.
What does help is that I think bands like Deep Purple or Rainbow were a lot better live than in studio. Most any of their songs kicked far more butt when playing it live and really long.

An excellent track indeed.I bought the single version of 'Might Just Take Your Life' when it was first released. The B-side is the wonderful instrumental.'Coronarius Redig'.
Burn was an excellent album.

^yes it was! On par, musically and sort-of, stylistically, to MK 2 albums..
While you know, I'm a fanboy, and I do prefer the soft, though excellent IMHO, Stormbringer, and the incredible funky Come Taste the Band

I really like the Coverdale/Bolin DP. I have had countless disagreements over this but that is when I really started to get into them. Friends had been into DP for a while before me and I just didn't 'get it' until Coverdale joined. You'll have to note that the melody to 'Black Night' was at the time being used as a football chant in Britain. I then started to backtrack through their material and started to like the DPI/II stuff almost as much.

Is that because you only have those 2 records, or because you only like those?

@ cacho: No, those are the ones that I prefer, and I like DP. I practically grew up with them. DP In Rock is what got me into that music in the first place, right back in '70.
I've got every single one of their studio albums, and a couple of live ones, but I don't think anything comes even close to the magnificence of those two.
