Im curious what other musicians out there use and how they use it (for fun, a band, recording other bands etc.)
I must admit im a pretty spoiled 16 year old (even though all I ask for during Cristmas and Birthday is musical equipment and most of it is my Dads that he lets me use all the time) Electric Guitars: PRS Custom 24 Acoustic Guitars: Martin Steve Howe Signature Seagull Grand Artist Amps: Peavy Deuce (120 watt tube amp) Peavy Valve King (50 watt tube amp) Keyboards: Roland X8 Effects: Line 6 XT Live Boss Analog - Flanger, Heavy Metal(distortion), Chorus, Noise Suppresser Morely Wah Pedal Recording: Boss BR-1600CD 16 track recorder I also have two Peavy Cabnets and two Sunn Cabnets and a Mixing board from the 70's I think. I play in two bands and I also get paid for recording local bands and allowing them to use my equipment.

Yeah they're great fun to play, my parents think I'm mad for spending all my money on this stuff. I'll convert some of my new tape recordings to digital and put them up on myspace sometime in the future. http://www.myspace.com/britishtradition there's some old stuff on there at the moment though.

Bass is my main instrument. Currently I have three. I also have an electric guitar and two acoustic guitars (one steel string and one classical). My main amp is an old Peavey Basic 60 50 watt bass combo, perfect for home use (I rarely play with others), that I will replace eventually, probably with an Ashdown combo of some sort, or another Peavey. I also have a small 15 watt bass combo that isn't really worth mentioning. List: Basses: Fender Classic 60's FSR Jazz Bass (blows American Vintage out of the water. Seriously) Peavey Millennium 4 (the old version, US made. Not to be confused with the current import BXP) Ibanez Roadstar II RB630 (Made in Japan, 1987. I'm about to sell this one and replace it with a 1980 Ibanez Musician MC824) Guitars: Epiphone G-400 (traded it with a friend for another old Epiphone I had. It's in a pretty messy state but is perfectly playable and sounds good) Amada 4870 (Czech made classical guitar. Very pretty, sounds good) Daion Year series The '78 Century (Beautiful steel string acoustic by this undeservedly forgotten Japanese brand) Amps you already know. |

I'm only going to list real equipment, to list all the junk in my basement would take forever.
Guitars: 1958 Gibson, 60's Hagstrom, custom guitar that I made (moderately strat shaped and very customized), Hagstrom Viking (my most used), Alvarez acoustic 12 string, Alvarez handmade acoustic (this being the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen), Fender Acoustic.
Bass: ESP Bass, I recently sold my Fender and will most likely be purchasing another
Drumset: I have it narrowed down to a 4 peice Ludwig drumset, can't recall the model, with varying cymbals, except my drummer's cymbals are here right now any way, ranging from Zildian to.....Istanbul? (the name is completely obliterated).
Harmonica: I have a large set of Lee Oskar Harmonicas, predominantly Diatonic harps, just started getting minors, and have a few Hehring diatonics.
Keys: Fender Rhodes Seventy, on top of a very large amp that it came suited with, Hammond L-100 Organ, Hammond Piper Organ, some cheapo digital keyboards from when I was a little kid, Alesis Micron synth (great for the Moog sound), and soon I'll have a Wurlitzer 200A.
Amps : Theres a moderate bass amp, but my bassist brings over his amp anyway.
Guitar Amps: Hughes and Kettner combo outputted to a marshall cab with customized Celestion speakers, as well as nice tubes. Carvin LX-100 head into marshall cab (maybe mine or my friends), Behringer PA, which takes whatever we need an amp for at the moment. Fender Vibrochamp, which I have since updated to a harmonica amplifier.
I used to be real into Rage Against the Machine as a kid, so my pedal board is pretty heavy, plus I've added many in the previous years.
Digitech Whammy Pedal, Vox Wah, Crybaby Wah (not in use since I've updated to the Vox), Smallstone Phase Shifter, MXR Distortion Plus(greatest fuzz I've ever seen, somebody gave it to me in a bar in California, and it is the original 60's-70's release of the pedal), vintage Ibanez Flanger, Arbiter Fuzzface (no longer in use), and an entire digitech display case pedal board that I got as one unit since I was friends with the owner.... it ranges from Delay, overdrive, reverb, phaser, flanger,chorus, auto-wah, and many more things.
Mics: Have several mics and stands (not many worth mentioning except the Shure mics), one condenser mic, and my harmonica bullet mic which is a Hohner.

I used the DJX to control an Akai Vintage Synth module I had on an extended loan but unfortunately the module's owner wanted it back. Heh, guess you're into playing the kinda stuff I am, judging from the gear. I hated the AVT series, the older Valvestates that came before them actually sounded way better, I don't get how Marshall managed to make an "improved" version sound worse. To be fair, the AVT has good clean tones, but for me who needs a good metal tone, it's non existent. They would be better for more classic tones I guess, not for modern tone guys like myself  Give one of the Valvestate 8100 amps a go if you can find one, so raw and unprocessed sounding compared to the AVT's distortion. The JVM series that came out 2 years ago are amazing though, but granted they cost 2 times what the AVT did, seem to cover everything from remarkably clean clean tones, to modern day death metal in one box, amazing stuff. How's that Tech 21 British pedal? Use it to overdrive preamps of amps or for the distortion itself in the pedal? -------------

I don't use too much distortion (about halfway on the Marshall's OD1 channel) and I find the AVT is perfect for my needs (it sounds particularly good with my Telecaster). I'm more of a classic rock / punk / indie guitarist than a metaller.
I haven't really explored the full potential of the Tech 21 pedal yet. I've used it as an overdrive with pretty good results but I really want to try recording with it straight into my Korg D8 to compare it with the Zoom's digital modelling. Help can someone help me out pls... I got roland vintage soundmodule,a EMU vintage keys and a MK149 evolution master keyboard... I can play with keybrd on the roland, but i just cant seem to communicate with the EMU. the demo songs play, all testing comes up OK , i'm not so midi knowledged... can someone helpme out please? enjoilife@hot mail.com thanx in advance !! |

The Moog M1 is that little Moog that was sold by radio shack, its small and cheap and sounds great. Even has some features the mini moog didn't have.
The Korg M1 is different. You picked the right ones from the list, the MS20 and the EPS are slam dunks. The Odyssey is a major dissapointment. |

I played a nice G&L 2000 bass and a Peavey Cirrus BXP this weekend at the local music store, both were incredibly nice instruments. I also finally got to try the Fender I just claimed was my current wish list...not so well fit for the style of music I'd like to get out of it. Of course, it could have just been the way the store had it set up, so I'll give others a try any time I see them.

Thanks for your kind words Clarke! It's really nice to have someone take a listen to my stuff! You're right about the Poly 800 Kind of a waste of space, as I don't have the time to try and coax a decent patch out of it. The Casio doesn't get all that much use. That lead on "Bob is on TV is the Roland JX-3P, with a lot of tweaking. I have to say that your post made my day.

Interestingly, I put my Jackson on the cube freezer in the utility room when the water was coming in and it survived. The old keyboard case/stand wasn't in the best of shape so was listing a little and my K1 had just the corner touch the water and survived. Some of the onboard patches were scrambled, but the patch set on the memory card survived in tact. The Korg had long ago ceased to be a functioning keyboard and I had replaced the Kramer, which also had a whammy bar, but the body was made of dense particleboard and it never stayed in tune too well. Haven't successfully set up the new MIDI capable devices to communicate yet. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Ah, but can you play them all simultaneously? I went to see Skeleton Crew (Fred Frith and company) back in the 80's and I swear there were moments where everyone was playing at least two if not three instruments. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I've got a Fender American Deluxe Strat, with two single coils and a humbucker, An epiphone les paul, a 50W Line 6 modeling amp, a Hammond XK-1 organ an accordion, a clarinet, a Kawai Piano, a tenor saxophone and a fifty dollar violin. I can't really play the clarinet, sax and violin though.

a Hagstrom acoustic guitar, A cheap used drum kit, and a Yamaha clarinet. I don't play any of them very much these days, as much as I love to (although I am not good at any of them).

I have no rig to speak of apart from a microcube amp and a Digitech multi-line effects pedal. Don't have a bass cab anymore. My main axe was an ESP L-250 I was borrowing from a friend but he wanted it back a while ago. I now use my cheap strat knockoff. My bass is an Ibanez EDA-905 fretless. I'll be purchasing a new guitar soon and it will be custom made and have 9 strings (No pairs, tuned F#BEADGBea). -------------

That's an interesting statement. If we're talking strings and I'm pretty sure your talking Chapman, I'd really love to get my hands on one. This can't happen.....way too much. Or maybe it will... Keyboards : Fender Rhodes Seventy, Alesis Micron, Hammond L-100, Hammond Piper II, garbage digital keyboard of some make. Guitars: Carvin guitar that I made from a guitar kit and have modified and customized in many ways. 1958 Gibson, early 60's Hagstrom, Hagstrom Viking (ES-335 imitation basically), acoustic Alvarez( very nice), acoustic 12 string Alvarez, acoustic Fender. I also have a Fender Jazz Bass and my prized possession, the Godin ACS nylon string synth guitar. Harmonicas: Diatonic harmonica's in all twelve keys, minors in a few keys, two bullet mics. Drumset: Generic Ludwig with various cymbals I don't feel like naming. Amplifiers: Hughes and Kettner head on top of a Marshall cab, Fender vibro champ, some kind of average PA system, as well as various other low grade amps in various degrees of working order. Effects Pedals: This would take forever to list, but I have a whole display case set of Digitech pedals that I got for super cheap. So other than that I have a digitech whammy pedal, vox wah, dunlop crybaby, small stone phase shifter, arbiter fuzz face (broken), original issue M&R fuzz (the greatest fuzz pedal ever),ernie ball volume pedal. On top of this I probably have various other pedals stashed in places that I don't use. So at least 15 pedals in this room. Then there's a fostex mixer for recording, as well as many mic's and related gear (the only noteworthy item being a Shure mic), then countless small gadgets that aren't worth mentioning. So my favorite things I own are my Godin ACS, Hammond L-100, Fender Rhodes, and Hughes & Kettner head on Marshall cab combo. This could probably be updated endlessly to add more and more things.
