Considering all I listen to is prog/fusion/heavy rock/folk spanning the period 1968-1982 you'd think I'd try and make songs that have the typical thoughts and ideas of an English prog band in the 70s or very early 80s. I'm aiming at a 70s style of prog with a bit of a fusion feel but recorded in a modern studio. So it will have a clean sound, but all of the instruments and the method of playing and composition/song writing is completely 70s. All of my melodies are completely original. I attempt to be fun, interesting, clever and complex but I'm not sure how it comes off to others in here Wink. Fugitive was an idea I had in my head a couple of months ago and I produced the song in 2 weeks. Production Line I made up on the spot while I was producing it. It's still in process as I keep adding to it. All samples are based on your typical prog instruments. Hammond, Rhodes, Moog, Arp, Clavinet, Harpsichord, Piano, Vibes, Flute, Violins etc. Then you have the standard instruments guitar, bass, drums. I try and blend Rock with Jazz and Classical, try and keep it busy and interesting with busy bass lines, not overdoing the guitar playing or volume. I don't know how to play a note on any instrument, so some of the playing might sound unorthodox or strange and some of the drum beats might repeat themselves due to me being a bit lazy. I'll be adding some more drums later on. But feel free to bash my songs, because I believe they are alot more true to prog than your porcupine trees and tools. Prog is about being complex when combing the instruments. Techical playing on one instrument doesn't mean alot to me. Have a laugh at my ideas below LOL

Pretty awesome tunes dude. They certainly don't have that modern pop sound and rythm to them. Nearly all modern bands have a modern feel though apart from some who seem to sound like elp, tull and so on. But these tracks don't really sound like any band but you can see influences. The fugitive song reminds me of Camel during the moonmadness or nude eras and production line has a gentle giant feel at the beginning but your ideas are your own. The production line song seems like it could be a 7 minute mini epic? What music program you use? They sound fairly realistic. Some people probably wouldn't know it's a program haha

Fugitive is about 95% complete. Just need a touch up some of the drums. Production Line will be a couple of minutes longer. I'm still deciding on whether I should spread the song out a bit during the first 2 melodies. Does it seem to start off a bit too fast? Funny you mention Camel, but it's the opposite song which made me think of them. I think i'll model it on Camels 'echoes'. Long intro producing a 6 minute song

The samples are quite rad too. They'd sound excellent played by a band
