30 users already cast their votes ... how about you?
http://progfreak.com/home/charts.xhtml?y=2008 - http://progfreak.com/home/charts.xhtml?y=2008
You don't need to assign a lot of tags, no genres or anything ... all that's need to participate is that you create an account and assign a rating (0-10) to your favorite albums of 2008.
EDIT: I implemented a common signature image url to display all the top lists ... from now on I'll add each new chart to this list. You can tweak the color of your chart on the signature configuration page at PF!

*bump ... seven views in two days, no takers. If you're reading this and you decide not to try, I'd still be interested in why. Even if you hate PF (or rating in general) - you can still consider it as a small christmas present for me - for the sake of old times.

Wow, not everyone that is among the people that have rated top albums of 2005 have even rated a full 5 albums. I managed it, surely everyone else can

I've added my top 20-25 votes a while ago - I may return to add notes up to #50 or such during the next days...

I'm fully aware that there are many people who may not even have listened to 5 albums of 2008. I have my hopes though that the various "top 2008" activities (which my chart is only one of) might encourage them to check out more of them. As others have also said: 2008 has been a strong year!

Anyone else interested in giving this a try? It only takes two clicks to submit a rating for an album on that chart page.

Oh, really?
Shameless self-promotion is the best.
I need to use PF more often, really. It's a neat site, Mike.

^ thanks! Well, the more of you use my site regularly, the more casual users from other sources (websites) might be attracted to it. By "regular usage" I don't mean heavy usage - just occasionally rating/tagging an album would do the trick. And as a nice side effect, at the end of the year you're automatically on this chart. Remember that I didn't build this website for "self gratification" ... it's meant to provide a useful service for you.
BTW: In the light of the top collabs albums list which was published by Ricochet yesterday (great work by the way!), I raised the bar for the PF chart a little bit. If I remember correctly, the collabs had to name their top 5 albums of 2008. On the PF chart, this is now also the standard requirement.
With this new requirement, there are now 16 users listed (as opposed to 72 collaborators in the other list). Come on guys, it's not too late to participate!

I'm not sure whether I understand that question. Maybe you noticed that today the chart moved to 2009 ... I changed that, it will continue to default to 2008 for all of January.

You can easily add their album yourself ... on the discography tab of the artist page. You can also add artists via the "Add Artist" link in the upper right box.
I also changed Barbares to 2008 - thanks for mentioning it! IT may be released in January in some countries, but at PF we *try* to enter the earliest release date.

Thanks, my list looks better now. Certainly did not want Ayreon in the Top 5. A definite step down from Electric Castle and THE.

^ I didn't think so at all ... I think that 01011001 is a really, really good continuation of those two albums. There are many references to especially Electric Castle, not only as far as the storyline is concerned, but also musically. And as always, the vocal performances are absolutely amazing.
Did I mention that I am a huge fan?

FYI: I fixed a bug which prevented new ratings to appear on your profile pages ... sorry about that one, it took me far too long to notice it. You can now click the link in the header text of the chart page - it will take you to your own charts page, where you can see all your ratings in the proper order.
I also installed a major upgrade today: You can now swiftly assign main genre and prog status right from the lists - no need to open the editor popup anymore.

^ the general policy is that once you add an artist or album you can't edit the data ... except for the tracklist, which has a special "finalize" button which you can use to prevent further editing. The reason for not allowing every user to edit artists and albums is obvious ... there would be no way to prevent abuse.
You can report any error in the PF forum, it will be fixed as soon as an admin or editor spots it. Of course you can also volunteer to become an editor ...

^ At PF we don't use user generated/uploaded album art ... instead I link the albums to Amazon, and then we use their cover art as part of the affiliation program. So all you need to do is to add the album and rate it, and eventually I'll link it to Amazon and add the cover art. I've already linked about 7000 albums, and there's currently a backlog of about 1700 albums.

Ohh I see...but somehow there are more obscure albums that don't appear
on Amazon...and I don't think they'll ever appear there. Ohh well...thanks for the fix. I'll go and upload more bands, albums and rate/tag some of them later.
