Ok, the basic idea here is to identify the greatest Zappa album from each decade then to take the winners and pit them against each other in a final mind boggling, mustache twirling battle royal.  Each poll will include both studio and live releases and there will be five polls: "the 60s", "the 70s", "the 80s", "the 90s (including posthumous)", and "the 2000s (all posthumous)".  Any excuse for more Zappa in the forums, I say!  Discuss, debate, wave your fists wildly in the air at each other, break things about one anothers heads, just clean up your mess afterward.  This week, "the 60s", seeing as the beginning is often a good starting place.  Yunz have but one week (till Saturday 12am) to make up yer minds.  Go!

God the 70s are going to be difficult!

I think Hot Rats will win this one.

BUT, I will vote for We're Only In It For The Money...brillant from start to finish.

of course I have to go with Uncle Meat, which is a great album, although I pretty much like all mentioned albums (even Ruben which sounds better on vinyl than on cd). but Uncle Meat is I think the most ecclectic here.
however,  Hot Rats will probably win. I'm looking forward to the 70's

There! I seem to have tipped the balance a bit. It's Hot Rats for me. And, yes, picking out an album from the 70s is going to be really hard (but I already know which one I'm going for).

We're Only In It For The Money by a gnat's whisker.

No love for Lumpy Gravy? Not a 5* classic, but definitely repays careful listening.

Hmm, I now have all those except for Ruben.  The '70's will probably be the hardest for me. I'll go with Money, an excellent parody of Sgt. Pepper and '60's hippie music.  Excuse me while go take my clothes off and dance. LOL  Then I think I'll go on with my drinkin' and drive home in my Lincoln.

Tough choice, but I'll also go with Money.

Ruben, by the way, is quite good if you can get hold of the LP.

expected Hot Rats to be the front runner, was giving We're Only in It for the Money a fighting chance, Uncle Meat having nearly as many votes right now as Money surprises me a bit even though it is a great album

Hot Rats will always win these.  As far as early FZ goes, it's an easy listen.  Not to mention that it contains the great Peaches.

For the 0 vote-getters:

Freak Out:  this is a five-star album all the way, but I think you had to be there.  So let's say it hasn't aged particularly well.
Lumpy Gravy:  just not very good.
Ruben:  FZ's take on doo-wop is not appreciated sufficiently.  If they'd release the original on CD it would at least be listenable.  Ray Collins is da man.
