Question: Why Not Steve Miller Band '68
Not so strange a suggestion as a listening to the first two albums - "Children of the Future" and "Sailor" would suggest. It is the first side in both cases where you can see Miller establishing himself as a nascent Progressive rocker, and pushing the barely defined genre forward past the Beatles, past the Moody Blues and prior to Crimson. Almost astonishing in fact is the opening of SAILOR. The cut "Song for our Ancestors" opens not only with Floydesque sound themes, but proceeds to a full symphonic wash that is IDENTICAL to the celebrated opening of Wish You Were Here. In fact, if ever I get the chance to talk with Roger Waters or David Gilmour I would, after a respectful 30 minutes, bring up the early Miller albums (recorded in England) and their association with Glyn Johns - Miller's and the Beatles producer (Get Back '69).
For these reasons and the undoubted influence Miller's Band had on the embrionic progressive movement in England, these ablums should be included for the sake of comprehensiveness.
