I have one problem concerning my headphones and i decided to share it with you because maybe more proggers would suffer from the same unfortunate events.
Anyway, the thing is that i don' t have any sound system. So, i have to rip all my CDs and put them in my IPod or MP3 player and listen them with headphones. The problem is that constantly the headphone wire get stuck in stupid things, such as a door knob, an armchair, my clothes, in various parts of my bike, in the bus seat, etc.
I wonder, this stuff only happen to me?

Prog must be experienced with proper speakers, not headphones. Headphones don't shake the earth with thunderous bass-pedal sounds (unless you use a sub with your Cans, but that's a whole other level of selfishness!)

I don't have any spare cash to give you, but building your own sub to go with your headphones could be fun. Google is your friend ;)

A good set of headphones is as good or better than any speaker system, imo. You just haven't tried the right headphones..

Technology alone doesn't solve the problem.
I have always put my wire inside my shirt (from the waist to the neck) to avoid this problem.
Clever ain't it?

well, i also do that, but there are 2 problems: 1st (and the one i really don't care) you sweat can ruin the wire and 2nd then the wire get stuck in my shirt ( i really don't know how, but it does) and the phones fall from my ears.

The cables are a drag, constantly getting into knots and tangles. I really could benefit by wireless headphones for Gigabeat/iPods....

One extreme.
You cannot takes proper speakers with you. Plus you can get a good pair of headphones for $25+, and an excellent pair if you spend more than that (big difference between good, cheap 'phones and sh*tty iPod earbuds and other trashy ones).

Another extreme.
You just haven't tried the right speaker system. :P
It's a totally different experience, sometimes I actually prefer headphones to speakers, since my speakers are in an awkward position in my dorm, but at home when I can set them up properly there is nothing better. Then again, I've invested much more in my stereo system than my headphones. You can buy an amazing pair of headphones for $250-300ish, and to get a stereo system of equal amazingness, you'll have to spend a lot more since it's other components and such, but to fully utilize awesome headphones you need a headphone amp. Mid-fi is basically where it's at, paying the most you can afford comfortably. Cheap stuff sucks but I'd rather just buy music instead of a $10k system (and get a $1k system instead).

And no matter how tidily you roll your headphones up, they always end up in some undiscovered not that even a scout couldn't fathom out? Yeah, been there

I'm sure we are not very far from hearing some research study that has determined that Bluetooth signals are pummeling our Medulla Oblongata's or causing birth defects. It took about 10 years with cell phones, maybe 5 more years on Bluetooth.

I agree on the extreme-low point, but it'll only miss with headphone if you have a well working 38cm subwoofer. Speaker and headphone listening are two different things, the first is more physical while the second is more cerebral, but you get more informations with good headphones.
Good headphones, properly drived by a dedicated head amp is already great. To find the speaker's equivalent of a pair of Senn HD600 in term of neutrality and musicality is about to be costy!

Truth. Headphones with a good amp handily best speakers in price-per-quality for individual listening. Problem is, one person and less comfortable than speakers. Also, there's nothing like waking your neighbors with Luciano Pavarotti.
