The show has been cancelled. Thanks for everyone who participated ... if you liked it you can continue to use it at Progfreak.com.
I've overstayed my welcome for far too long ... I've become an intolerable burden for this website, so I'll simply go and won't look back.

I changed the implementation a little bit ... you'll need five albums to make it to the page. The albums have to be from 2008 and the rating has to be at least 6 (on a scale from 0 to 10). This ensures that for each user exactly five albums are displayed, and only those with reasonably good ratings are shown.

I can only think of 4. I guess I'm disqualified.

^ EDIT: I must have been reading your mind ... but maybe the top list which I added to the left side inspires you!
I changed the implementation again ... you'll only need three albums
to make it to the page. I also added the general top albums list to the page (using votes from all the users) on the left side, and reduced the level of detail in the per user lists. BTW: You can use the charts page to cast your votes:
http://progfreak.com/home/charts.xhtml?chart.year=2008 - http://progfreak.com/home/charts.xhtml?chart.year=2008
But I'll try to add the editor buttons to the other pages too, for your convenience.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated ... even if you don't want to participate, I'd still be interested in why.

On the discography page the edit buttons should be in the list (rightmost column), and on each album page there should be a button in the "Info" box, right beneath the album rating.
I'll try to highlight the buttons better ...

We have a new entry ... welcome atticthought:
|
Posted By: MikeEnRegalia
Date Posted: October 27 2008 at 12:22
Now you can select more years ... or browse the general top lists without any restriction. Next up: filters which will enable you to narrow down by genre and/or prog status.
|
Posted By: MikeEnRegalia
Date Posted: October 27 2008 at 19:21
Just about to go to bed ... but I've added three more filters: You can now narrow down per main genre and album type, and you can select year intervals in addition to single years.
|
Posted By: MikeEnRegalia
Date Posted: October 28 2008 at 04:34
Another improvement: You can now rate albums directly on that page, in the album chart on the left.
|
Posted By: MikeEnRegalia
Date Posted: October 28 2008 at 09:06
Yet another improvement: You can now specify how many albums to show per user, and how many albums are required per user. For example, you could choose to display the top 5 albums per user, and require that any user included in the list must have rated at least 10 albums. Or you could choose to display the top 10 albums per user and don't make any requirement at all.

Wow ... I knew that people don't like my website, but that they have to rub it in my face ... I must say that I feel like my heart is being ripped out and flushed down the toilet.
Have you ever spent weeks in an selfless effort to provide something useful to people, and then they simply walk by without taking any notice?
BTW: Thanks to anyone who participates ... I really appreciate it. But what really puzzles me is that I'm getting the distinct feeling that most users here are simply ignoring my efforts no matter what.

Here's something I don't understand: stonebeard's post was created yesterday, attracted about 100 views and 10 posts, 6 of which were people posting their top 10. My post was created much earlier, attracted about 170 views, but only three people posted their top albums (on my website).
@all you out there who hate my website: show yourselves! Please at least give me a chance to fix the things that you don't like ...

-------------
|

^ on the chart page you simply need to find the edit button in the album chart on the left side () for the album you want to rate. You click it, and in the rating editor which opens you select a rating from the dropdown labelled "Main Rating".
Is that really too difficult? I know that some of the advanced features of PF are a bit complicated, but assigning a rating should not be that much of a problem anymore.
Let me know if you still have any problems with the website!

Quick update: I tweaked the display a lot, the page should now be a bit easier to read:
http://progfreak.com/home/users.xhtml?path=top_lists - http://progfreak.com/home/users.xhtml?path=top_lists
The main genre label now contains up to two tags (for example "Magnificent Symphonic Prog Retro Rock!"), which makes the tag lists a bit shorter. I'll work on reducing them even more, with the goal being that no more than 3-4 tags are displayed for each entry.

are you telling me that despite having been here for well over 3 years, that I'm ineligible to list the 2008 albums I have heard, in a PA thread entitled 'Top Albums of 2008....more votes needed!' because I don't have an account on another website???

Just implemented two major changes which will make voting much easier:
1. You can now vote directly from the list on the left. Just select a rating from the dropdown - no need to open the rating editor popup for that (of course you can still use it to add further infos and tags).
2. The list on the left now has a "recommendation mode" which you can use to find albums that you haven't rated yet. It simply skips all albums to which you already assigned a rating.
Any comments? Aside from calling me a "t**ser", please ...

I can think of one or two more comments, Mike, which I would like you to consider carefully...
1) Yes, I did read your first post. I still nevertheless thought that you might be interested in seeing how I had graded the few albums from 2008, which I had heard, so I quickly knocked up an excel spreadsheet for you to comment on, if you wished. I did this to try and be constructive and helpful, and maybe add something of value to the debate. If I had believed beforehand that no-one would have been interested, then I wouldn't have bothered.
2) Even if you found my scant 'data' an irrelevance, you could have at least had the common decency to acknowledge me with a simple 'thanks', or even ignored what had been a polite post.
3) What you have basically said however, is that your opinions are not warranted, if you do not have a PF account. Whilst I personally find this to be rather rude and elitist, for me, it begs a number of other questions. As you will be aware, I have raised this issue in the abuse reporting thread, concerning whether there are/ should be areas of the general forum where as a PA member, I am not allowed to post. The answers I have received have been an unequivical 'no'. This means that you have no authority or mandate to ring-fence any threads or sections of this site for purely PF purposes, or indeed for any other account holders only, thereby marginalising ordinary PA members.
I am sorry that you found my above post to be unwarranted, or an intrusion into a private members club, but its not as if I have ever been denigrating towards your website, either now, or in times past.
I would finally just say to you that I genuinely thought I would get a bit of a flaying from the senior team concerning my outburst, but I only received one PM which was critical of my post, but several more in support of what I said. Please don't start making the use or otherwise of PF a divisive issue on this forum, Mike, but just accept everyone's opinions for what they are, irrespective of which medium they use.
Right, that's all I've got to say on this issue...I won't post in here again.

I did this to try and be constructive and helpful, and maybe add something of value to the debate. If I had believed beforehand that no-one would have been interested, then I wouldn't have bothered. You see, I've literally spent months of work so that people can cast their votes comfortably at PF. So when I create a thread in a desperate attempt to get people to give it a try, maybe you can begin to understand how I feel when I see that someone simply ignores all that.
I'd be glad to know about your top 10 albums of 2008, but in this thread circumventing my website hurts my feelings - although I'm sure that that was not your intention, I can't help feeling this way.
2) Even if you found my scant 'data' an irrelevance, you could have at least had the common decency to acknowledge me with a simple 'thanks', or even ignored what had been a polite post.
I could say "thanks for the effort", but my heart would still be broken. I realise now that you made the post based on the thread title alone ... my apologies for not making it more clear.
3) What you have basically said however, is that your opinions are not warranted, if you do not have a PF account. Not at all. I value your opinion highly, it is simply off-topic ... you did not *vote*, you simply posted a list. I admire you for taking the time to compile it, but as honorable an effort as it may be, a year from now it will be lost in the archives of this forum ... what I'm intending to do here is to give you all a way to submit this information in a more permanent way, and taking much less time and efforts.
BTW: stonebeard started a similar thread which is for posting lists only ... your list would be in good company there.
