I know that in order to submit a band, I need all sorts of information, but I would just like to suggest a few bands here which deserve inclusion, just to start a discourse.
I'm sure some of these bands have been discussed, but I want to have them reconsidered.
Thanks!

A lot of these have been suggested and discussed before e.g. Budgie and Patto. With respect it would save the genre teams a lot of time if you could filter these out by searching through the Suggest New Band section.

For the ones that haven't been suggested before, we will need MP3 samples, photos, biogs, web links etc as per the requirements.

Thanks.

Okay, I removed

Ginger Baker's Air Force
Todd Rundgren
The Pink Faires
The Deviants
Faith No More
Budgie
Patto
Ween

But I still think these bands should be added. Anyway, I'm new to the forum so I'm not exactly sure what to do. Should I just open a post about a certain band that contains all of this information (i.e. mp3's, photos, links, bios, etc.)?

Hi Anoah, Welcome to the site and thank you for the band suggestions.  It is PA's goal/motto to be the ultimate prog resource but there are so many bands out there we definitely count on band suggestions to find many bands that aren't currently included.

The long answer to your question is to check out this thread here:

http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=51990 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=51990

You should probably check out that thread anyhow, but a quick response is that it is generally best to start a new thread with the bands name and suggested genre in the title.  That way the specific genre teams are alerted that a band has been suggested for them to listen to.  Within the thread, a quick summary about the band and why you feel they belong on PA is helpful, as well as links to the bands MySpace Page or Website, or other internet sources that might play music that can be listened to for judging the bands "progginess" as well as determining the best fit for a genre to include them in.

The quickest way to get a band included on PA is to also include a picture of the band and an original biography of the band that can be easily added to their PA page, or at the least can be used by the genre specialists to assist them with writing an original biography for PA.    I hope that this helps.  And thank you again for your assistance with finding the prog bands that may not otherwise have been found.

There is an 80's band called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streets_%28band%29 - Streets that is fronted by Steve Walsh, similar to Asia as far as progginess, or even less so.  Has an arena-rock feel.  Definitely some prog influences, though, like the pop side of Kansas.  I think it would fit nicely in Prog-Related. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streets_%28band%29 -

I wouldn't say Jazz Prog...more like a good example of pop-infused prog or Crossover Prog.  Some might argue Prog Related.  You can listen to their samples at the myspace page link.  There are some good tracks.

I was reading about them.  It turns out that Donovan's song "Hurdy Gurdy Man" was written for lead guitarist and friend Mac MacLeod but Donovan didn't like the version Hurdy Gurdy did, so he made a single out of it.

Welcome Anoah.

Srtreets is the POP - AOR band of Steve Walsh and Billy Greer, I'm very familiar with them and no Prog connection for sure,

Lake has been suggested and rejected twice.

Anoah,

you are the first (not including myself) who mentioned Winter consort. I actualy grew on their music, mainly on their debut (self titled). Later I fell in love with Road and Icarus. I've been trying to mention them few times in the past and it seems nobody here knows them so I am very happy to meet another one who does. I fully agree with including them here.

White as Alan White?!? Smile

I wholeheartedly agree about Hurdy Gurdy, and not so sure for the Killing Floor (even as proto).
I'll propose Les Claypool for Eclectic in the near future.

My opinion if it matters:

  1. Lenny White: Did an outstanding job as performer and member of Return to Forever, but his albums are FUNK JAZZ, no Prog connection
  2. Hurdy Gurdy: If we are talking about the 60's Swedish Psyche / Hard Rock combo, I'm Ok.
  3. Killing Floor: Again please specify, there's a Pop duio and a Bellew band, I guess is the second, not Prog music, but at least related because of the Bellew connection.
  4. Ram: PLEASE; BE CLEAR, there are 20 RAM bands
  5. Salem Mass: Terrible band, a more pompous and self indulgent version of ELP, but it's Prog
  6. Toe Fat: Another Uriah heep related band, not the best Hensley and Kerslake incarnnation, but at least related
  7. Zerfas: Proto Prog, no doubt
  8. Haze: Not the  best band, but Neo anyway
  9. Les Claypool: Please, no rog connection, seems the latest fashion i to add funky artists.
  10. Les Champignons: Never heard them
  11. Leaf Hound: Blues Rock, niothing more

My two cents

Iván

Ok Scandinavian....The problem is that there are a Hurdy Gurdy from the 60's which are Danish (As you well say) and a Hurdy Gurdy from the 90's that are Swedish.(Released an album called prototyp) and of course Donovan (The Hurdy Gurdy Man)

That's why I ask to precise before recommending, for example, there are at least ten bands named Ram.

Lake, the german-british band, could be compared to Supertramp, if you take out Crime of the Century from their output. I thought they used to be here. I have 3 of their 4 albums, and they are well worth a listen. But I'll have to go through them again to see if anything past the first one really qualifies as prog. And the debut's progginess amounts to the second side (LP & Cassette) being made up of 3 lenghty songs.
I'll toss in another few cents worth soon.

Hi Claude, Lake was in the master list recommended for Symphonmic.

I)n 2006, with Raff and Micky, we cleaned all the bands in that list that had the word Symphonic beside them, and passed on Lake.

In 2007 with a totally different team we received 13 bands, and despite oçur previous report, they were recommended again, and the result was:

Quote Topic: Symphonic Team Additions from the Master List
    Posted: May 19 2007 at 23:24

Lake: Prog Related at best. Suggest striking them from the list, and let it be forgotten.WE CHECKED THEM LAST YEAR (WITH RAFF, MICKY AND FRAGILE DT AND REJECTED THEM, WE RECOMMENDED TO BE REMOVED, AND A NEW TEAM HAS THE SAME OPINION.

Guys, please, don't look at this thread and omit it, we have done a research that must be used, we are recommending some bands to some sub-genres and this is already verified, lets use what we found.

http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=38137&KW=Symphonic - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=38137&KW=Symphonic

So at least twice, and by two different Symphonic Teams, this band has been checked.

I'm listening to them now (Lake). It would have been a stretch for PR. I really can't see how they made it in symphonic in the past. The first album has three extended songs, but one is more of a jam at the end than a suite.
The next two were hard rock/pop. Above average and underrated, but not prog.
Again, my earlier comparison of Supertramp stands. They do share some of the pop sensibilites, but not much in the way of prog attitude.
On the other hand, they do remind me of the sort of music I'd heard on the one City Boy album I listened to (now completely forgetten).
So to summarize, you won't get an arguement from me that they don't really belong here. Your mid 70s rock fan might find them of interest, but PR already has had its' share of long shot suggestions of the type of music.

Les Champignons!

I have their ''Premiere capsule'' album from 1972,I think.Quite an obscurity, even here in Quebec where they come from. They would fit the psych/space rock category fine.An ecclectic mix of blues, folk, psych and light sympho stuff a la early Ange(at least on one song). On other tracks they sound like a druggier early Jethro Tull. There's definite underground vibes that premates the production.ie;muddy mix,low fi sound.

I listen to prog therefore I'm crazy. Road is full of great tracks IMO.
