In the words of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond: "What, you were expecting someone else?"Wink

I'm filling in for Alex for this round, but otherwise it's pretty much the same dealy-o he's been going through. In this round we return from the land of apples v. oranges and pit up two spacey/psychedelic bands. One is a older classic to many proggers and the other is a newer classic to some of us (or at least meLOL). That's it for my part. Now to copy/paste the useful info.

Please: If you are not familiar with one or both of the band's material, I urge that you use the links provided and at least listen to the samples on their respective pages (or Youtube if the particular band has no online streaming).

Ozric Tentacles' PA page: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=281 - http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=281
Hawkwind's PA page: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=732 - http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=732

Also please feel free to discuss both bands.

Thanks Branden!Clap

I'll second that motion. Hawkwind, while interesting, doesn't seem to do that much for me. However Ozric Tentacles I find are quite interesting, make the only type of prog I've heard that could be used as dance music,LOL and I think most, if not all, of their albums are very original. May the powers of Feng Shui prevail!Big%20smile

Hawkwind. I love me some space music right now.

Hawkwind.

They're good even when they're awful!

Their style has changed a lot over the years too, unlike the Ozrics who, although very good, are rather formulaic.

Wow... one of hardest questions i've seen so far....

Hawkwind... Because after all they have more power in they music, and they are more favorable for me to listen... but still OT is one of the most thrilling space bands...

No Contest Hawkwind , Ozrics are a good Live band well worth going to see but that recorded output  is nowhere near as good as The Hawks  even though Ozrics are good live still not as good as the Mighty Hawks who have always put ona good show no matter what the setting is, i once saw them play in a laybye on back of flat bed truck Briliant stuff ,  Also those who Voted Ozrics i wonder how much Hawkwind they really have heard ???  This really is a no Brainer   After all who do you think Influence  Ozrics in the first Place Yep the Mighty Hawks  along with Gong of course .

Well, Area only won by a single vote, it's not like Gong has no fans around here, and Area is awesome.

They would have been very different thats for sure, but still pretty spacey as Ed Wynnes biggest influence is clearly Steve Hillage.

That may be True , but the Ozrics grew out of the Free festival scene  forming i believe at Stonehenge festival
which of course Hawkwind being one the main Organizers (the Stage was Nick Turners) i also know the Ozrics themselves to be Big Hawkwind Fans,  they themselves would probably Vote HAWKWIND to
Much as i love the Ozrics this really is no contest , With the Hawk History etc etc and there Recorded output
is Miles ahead anything the Ozrics do, the Ozrics are basicaly instrumental jam band, where as Hawkwind
have written some top Tunes over years, Both Robet Calvert and Dave Brock are realy fine song Writers,
So it HAWKWIND all the way, but still love the Ozrics hell got to love them after all they are from my Kneck woods  good ole Somerset

Most people who loves Gong also love Area. I know I do, and I ended up voting Area. What's wrong with that?

I voted Hawkwind here, but that was almost as easy as voting for Can.

I didn't say there was similarities, but they do share fans. Just like most people who's into Univers Zero also likes Henry Cow. Most people who like Residents also likes Frank Zappa.

A lot of us had a hard time choosing between Soft Machine and Magma too. Not because they have so much in common, but simply because we love both.

No, I'm still here. Wink

Been a bit busier with school this week, have an Accounting midterm tomorrow, and I also needed to take a bit of a break from the computer... but now I'm back.

I'm glad to see the Ayreon/Le Orme poll was as close as it turned out to be! Shocked
