You know, I was just taking a shower and the case of John Wayne Bobbit came to mind. His was successfully reattached after his wife cut it off and tossed in a field somewhere. From what I understand it's fully functional.
Maybe a transplant is an option. That would really be weird to lose your penis and wind up with another man's.

Now I've just thought of the amusing 1970s British comedy film Percy featuring Hywel Bennett.

Sad news, but not new to my ears, since a Romanian doctor also sliced severly a patient's penis (without precisely operating there) three or four years ago.

German Doctors amputated the leg off the wrong guy last month. I think some of these doctors need to have their brains amputated. Over 24,000 cases of malpractice in Canada last year. Although we have free medicare in this goofy country most of the more talent goes down to the US.

Yeah, he starred in a porno called Frankenpenis afterwards in order to cash in on it. Directed by Ron Jeremy and featured cameo appearances by Ice-T and Nene Cherry.
Truth is stranger than fiction...

I've seen some amateur porno that's best known for being passed off as a Meg White sex tape... fooled a lot of people even though the girl in the video is way too tanned to pass for Meg White.

By the way, quick trivia: the woman that chopped off Mr. Bobbit's sword, Lorena Bobbit, was from Ecuador! So there you go, an extra celebrity from my country!

While I know you meant this to be funny it really isn't since testosterone is not produced by the penis you pretty much sentence the guy to a life of torture. He would have the same desires as any other man just not be able to do anything about it.

Well, curiosity got the best of me and I looked up penis transplant. This is probably the best article I came across:
http://www.slate.com/id/2150153/ - http://www.slate.com/id/2150153/
Apparently there's only one recent one on the record, a Chinese man in 2006 and he had it taken back off:
'The case report details how beautifully the surgery succeeded. Then,
abruptly, it ends with the sentence: "At day 14 postoperatively because
of a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife, the
transplanted penis regretfully had to be cut off." In the follow-up
article, they explain, "The patient finally decided to give up the
treatment because of the wife's psychological rejection as well as the
swollen shape of the transplanted penis." In other words, the
surgery failed. It passed the old tests—functionality, healing,
immunosuppression—but flunked the new tests: cosmetics, aesthetics,
symbolic meaning. The body didn't reject the tissue; the mind did. In
their follow-up report, the doctors remain baffled. "What happened
after the operation was still beyond our and the patient's imagination
because this was the first attempted transplantation," they plead.' Personally if I had lost mine and got a transplant - cosmetics, aesthetics,
symbolic meaning be damned - as long as I could orgasm. People are strange.

If you think medical mistakes don't happen in the US health care system you are sadly mistaken. Health care will never be free, but health insurance really needs to be not for profit and single payer. We don't need faceless corporate bureaucrats second guessing our doctors. And our doctors do need to be accountable for their mistakes. I've had a bit of experience with the US health care system in recent years and I don't have any complaints. I work for a small business and know personally that health insurance expenses have been escalating to a ridiculous degree. Tantamount to a redistribution of wealth from my pay to a bunch of greedy CEOs.

Being an RN myself, I see first hand the number of people that can't afford healthcare in the U.S., and you can't just tell them they can't be treated. They get treated and either taxpayers pay for it anyway or the hospital eats it. Look at the number of hospitals that get closed every year due to lack of funding. People can complain all the want about "wacky Canadian healthcare" or dangerous slippery slopes toward socialism, but if you don't take care of your community, the whole community suffers. I also hear alot about "all the Canadian doctors going to the U.S." That's a crock. Perhaps more specialized treatments can be obtained here, but for the largest healthcare needing populations (infectious disease, oncology, heart disease) more and more U.S. residents are heading to Mexico for affordable treatment.
I can also tell you that even as a member of the healthcare profession, my insurance sucks. Exhorbatant co-pays, claims adjusters deciding what care I can have. Its crap. And you said it Slarti, the cost goes up as the quality goes down.
And from an oversite perspective, I would certainly rather have that come from someone who cares about what they are doing, than someone who gets paid more to deny benefits.

There needs to be a change, im not denying that. Its the massive govt. run system im scarred of. Governments are the most inefficient and poorly run institutions around. i think it would be a mistake to give them more control of the healthcare system when their track record clearly shows that they have absolutely no capability to do so. Medicade and medicare are absolute disastors. I think the govt. pays on the order of over 50% of all the healthcare costs in the country and the costs are still rising. Im not saying our system is all that much better than canada's right now because it isnt. its terrible. but i think it would be a bigger disastor to impose more regulation on the order of Canada's national healthcare system.

The track record for financial disaster in the U.S. tends to stem from deregulation rather than over regulation. California is still suffering the effects of energy deregulation that allowed predation of what has now become a basic necessity, much like healthcare. The only oversite we have in healthcare now is pharmecutical company backed FDA commitees. What kind of oversite is that? The problems with medicare isn't the way the system is run or that we spend too much money on it, that's all smoke and mirrors. If you want to compare what government run operations accomplish versus privatization, just look at the mess in Iraq. Of course it took a stupid government decision to get us in there in the first place, but the privatization of the occupation without oversite is costing a billion dollars per day. Imagine what that money could do being plugged into healthcare. Now we are going to bail out financial institutions that made ludicrously poor decisions in a housing boom.
RAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to stop.

I don't know if you got what I meant by WN as opposed to RN, but I'm guessing you did, but haven't you heard of he boobies? It would be unfair to assume you're one of those rare lactating males. Part of the joke there is nurses stereotypically aren't supposed to be male. Yeah, sometimes I crack really bad jokes on the forum here.
