To Admin: link removed- thread can be deleted Hoping some of you fellow proggers can help us out. We are considering adding a few less known songs to our usual "Oh I know that song, let's get up and dance to it..." offerings. None of the songs are prog, probably AOR, but all guitar oriented. Now there are a quite a few songs in the link below, but if you could listen to them and just give a 'that'll work' or a 'you buggered that one' to each it would be very much appreciated. No need to listen to all of each song- make up your mind and step on. Target venues- small pubs. I know it's a lot to ask, but we would really appreciate knowing whether the songs work or not. I think we will have enough trouble trying to sell these lesser known songs to an audience, without trying to sell them something that sounds like crap! Click the link below to listen. All is fixed now. Why can't microsoft obey the W3C standards! Hope IE8 addresses this problem now that Firefox is making inroads into their monopoly and Google Chrome has hit the market.

Well, I haven't heard all of them. Right now I'm listening to Even Flow (I'm not a big Pearl Jam by any means, but always had a soft spot for Ten), The vocals sound somewhat 'light' if you get what I mean, whereas Eddie Vedder managed to still make the song sound slightly bleak even through the groovy riff. The guitar work is quite good, but if you listen to the original solo (I can't remember which guitarist out of the two plays it now), there is fair bit of compression (perhaps heavy gain) in the signal, and I think the solo on your version could do with more gain to capture that more crunchy, more compressed feel of the original. I don't really like Asia anyway, so I think it's best someone else that knows the song passes some comments on it. I haven't heard Led Zeppelin in many many months now, perhaps even as long ago as last year, so I don't really remember those songs off the top of my head. I'll try to give more comments later and listen to the rest later too. So far the Even Flow cover is not too bad to listen to. -------------

Is there anybody out there.... Come on guys- I'm not asking for opinions on production etc. Not the point of the thread as they are going to be played live anyway. I just want to know what works. Better if you don't know the songs- the target audience probably won't. There must be a few out there willing to give a hand. |

I didn't mind Whiteroom at all.
I have actually only really heard Whiteroom a few times... I don't really listen to classic rock anymore to be honest, so a lot of the songs on there, I either haven't heard in well over a year or even more, or have just never heard.
Whiteroom is a definitely one you can use.
Sunshine of Your Love, is just over played, so I had to force myself to pay more attention.
After hearing all sorts of beginner guitarists over the years play that main riff way too many times (as well as Smoke On The Water), just made me sick of it really
 I felt a bit more could have been put into the solo. It seemed almost mechanical at times, it really needs more nuances really, the guitar needs to be attacked with far more fire and passion. Being able to make each phrase it's own rather than sounding like a bunch of half inspired licks that sound somewhat monotonous is just much more exciting.
Apart from that, it can work.
