Well, I am trying to help improving the site...

Great, really appreciated. Is there a link planned on the main page, or have I overlooked it?

The list of countries that have no "prog representative" on PA is quite long...I've made one, but deleted it by accident. However, I'm quite surprised that countries like Moldova, Liechtenstein, San Marino and Montenegro have no bands here, some Latin-American countries, such are Honduras and Paraguay, then Korea, Singapore, China, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan,Iran, then Egypt and Nigeria. Perhaps my expectations are set a bit too high, but I don't think so.
Thanks Dean for the Shri Lanka prog band link!
I'll try to delve deeper into "unknown" prog territories and find some artists and propose them for inclusion. That should be fun.
Bob, could you make this topic sticky? You already said you did, but I don't see the "needle icon"

A great list, thank you!
Are there any technical (or other) reasons why these countrylinks could not be added also to the country texts in the archive lists? I think it would be really handy enhancement, as I find it ineteresting to try look at the scenes of some countries.

I've made a chart of artists distribution by country here, to see which countries have the most (or the least) artists listed on Prog Archives. It's http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=60508&PID=3351263#3351263 - here .

Why isn't there links to countries (and to genres) on the Artist Pages anymore?! Actually I can't find any links to country listings, except here from the forum. Not even the Google search gives anything.
There should be link "BY COUNTRIES" in the top menu, in "ARTISTS" or "MISC". And on the artist pages.
Or is some kind of update process killing links for a moment?

You never know...I'm doing a little research of my own, searching for the prog artist from countries that are least likely to have any rock artists, let alone prog rock artists...and there are some encouraging results.

Thank you for this. Top albums finder is neat, but a lot of albums from my country have no ratings. So they're not here.
Tell us about some interesting results, something like Vatican prog (probably death metal band :) )
By the way hello, I'm here (did message disappeared?)

I have been thinking the same recently since the new design of the artists page - the link to country has disappeared to my great unhappiness...
I was also always expecting to see a handy tool (links) to display bands/artists by country... to no avail so far... :(

Clarke, you did a wonderful job with this country listing. It is something I have been waiting to see since I joined the PA.... I will bookmark it in my browser, but would be also useful to have it somewhere integrated on the home page categorisation links...
Kudos, man!

Actually, China has a hugely successful prog rock band. I have sent them an interview request.

I'm glad there's an ongoing issue about prog in various countries again.
Since I started this thread, a few things changed...we have now the represantitives from China and Moldova...
I'm however, surprised we still have any prog bands from some countries...perhaps I have high expectations, but having a prog band from every country from Europe and the Americas shouldn't be an impossible task.
I have expectations for Africa and Asia too.I'm surprised we dont' have any (South) Korean artists yet. As for the middle-eastern countries, if there's one rock/metal band, there will be another. in fact, for many non-developed countries I'm expecting to find some for of pop/rock/metal blend with local folk musics in an unconventional way.

I'm going to bring this thing up again:
Why did the links to "artists by country" listings disappear and isn't it really possible to bring them back?
The desing of this above part has changed so that perhaps it's not possible to have the link appear there (I don't know squat about website programming, perhaps it is possible), but here in the alphabetical listings I'm sure it wouldn't be the slightest problem. At least it would be quite a lot more handy than trying to find one's way to this thread or somehow know the exact url of the country pages and then start guessing the country codes.
Please?

I loved being able search easily by country. That helped me to discover a lot of French bands when I started using this site, was heavily using it in 2005 though I decided not to register until I felt I knew enough music to seem fairly knowledgable, and found a particular affinity for French Prog across various categories.

My thanks to you, Clarke2001, for doing all this work to enable clicking on a country within the list at the top of this thread. Searching by country is as important to some of us as searching by genre: with each country's often unique sound, most countries are subgenres within their own right. I also appreciate the link, here, to the breakdown, by artist distribution within each recognized country, in your associated thread. Those density numbers are all appreciated stats!
I like the 70s bands from (then) Yugoslavia remaining under that heading, as a separate country--how, otherwise, will those of us who favor 70s rock ever find them, trying to remember all the names that have come (and some, gone)? How would we know which new (old) region they are to be associated with, particularly since the political regime at the time had everything to do with this? The same always applied, and still does, in the world of stamp collecting. I had a great old triangular issue from Tana Tuva. It isn't a country, now, so it would be pointless to expect someone to find it under the new geographical designation. By the same token, I certainly want to recognize newer artists under the country they are now from.
If an old band recorded on the cusp of the breakup, having a highlighted year function here on PA would be fantastic. (Is that possible, or being considered?)
I bookmarked this thread: your list atop is as important to me as the contents Home page here on PA.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback mate I have this thread bookmarked too; I find it quite useful sometimes. I'm not blowing in my own horn - anybody with a bit of patience here could have done it - but people obviously like it and use it. There used to be (a few years ago) a listing by country implemented in the web site; but I don't know if that feature is ever going to be back. I hope it will...
