Pretty easy to understand, what was your first concert, worst concert, best concert, and last concert?

As for me:

First: Journey 2003 or 04

Worst: ^, I didn't know any of the material, and I don't like it now a days anyway.

Best: Progressive Nation 2008 (Dream Theater, Opeth, BTBAM, and 3) NYC 2nd night Terminal 5

Last: Rush Jones Beach 2008

Latest: I think it was Sleepytime Gorilla Museum in a rather small venue in NYC. Intense show.

- first was Saxon in 1983.
- worst was probably Sting in '88.
- best was Ronnie Lane's Appeal Tour with Page, Beck, Clapton, Cocker and a bunch of others, 1983 though Yes in the Round and Jeff Beck/Stevie Ray Vaughan come close.
- I don't know if I can remember my last, I think it was Stevie Nicks in 2001, she was terrific   ..no it was Sleeping People just last year

Coming from Ecuador, the only band I ever saw live there that appears on PA is ANGRA in 2003...

But i better only talk about my US concerts:

First - The Flower Kings - Largo, Florida 2006

Best - The Flower Kings - 2006 (so intimate... it was the best, if not the most exciting, which obviously was the one below...)

Last - ProgNation 2008, Miami Beach- Having my favorite band there (DT) obviously should have made this my best concert, but the curtain problem with OPETH and the poor sound of BTBAM made this a lesser concert, even though THREE was excellent and seeing DT live for the first time was, well....Heart

Worst - Of the ones here, probably Porcupine Tree, Orlando FL 2007. It was not bad at all, but I've seen only 6 since I've arrived so i have to pick one! (Wilson forgot the lyrics to "Blackest Eyes" and the song list was terrible... too much Nil Recurring, too few Deadwing or In Absentia or LightBulb Sun....

But my worst concert ever would have to be in my country... those really were something else....

First - Alice Cooper with Flo and Eddie(early 70s). This was back when Alice was still sort of "undeground". Flo and Eddie (ex Zappa and Turtles) were total 60s LA freaks, one of them was bouncing up and down and 'fondling' his own big shirtless man-breasts while they sang about a million reprises of the Turtles hit "So Happy Together". All this in front of a bunch of local yokel rednecks in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Worst - REO Speedwagon with Rainbow(mid-70s) ELP Works tour(late 70s) Those two shows turned me off to 70s hard rock and prog rock for a long long time.

Best - Genesis with Bill Bruford on drums(mid 70s) Black Flag, 5 piece version with Chuck Biscuits and Dez Cadena(early 80s) King Crimson double trio at Berkeley's Greek Theatre

Last - I'm going to see a great local Hammond B3 trio (City Champs) this Sunday. I guess that's not really a concert, but I don't go to big shows much anymore. I tried to go see Sound Tribe Sector 9 last year, but I couldn't get anyone to go with me.

First: Kansas 1977: Amazing, I got the chance to see them in their peak.in Florida.

Best: Rick Wakeman in Lima: Amazing concert, Rick's instruments were sent to Paraguay due to a mistake in IATTA codes (Pa instead of  Pe), so the concert started at 1:00 am on a thursday, not a sigle seat availlable, the public received Rick as a hero and he played until near 4:00 am, he was very emotional and gave his best.

Worst: Jon Anderson in Lima: I almost fell asleep, not because it was  bad, because it wasn't for those who like his solo stuff, but because I expected something different, left after 1 hoiur.

Latest: Riders on the Storm: Not bad for a cover band.

Are you talking about Riders, the band that plays old country tunes. I'm no country fan but they are great. I made a point of talking to them after the show, very funny guys, lots of sly winks and sexual double entendres. They are from an older and wittier era that doesn't exist anymore.

No EM, I'm talking about "Riders on the Storm", the Doors tribute band formed by Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger with Brett Scallions trying to fill the shoes of Jim Morrison.

Okay, I'll play:

First:  Paul Revere and the Raiders, probably 1967.  Awesome concert.

Best:  Yes, Denver, CO in 1972.  The single finest performance I've ever experienced.  I'm talking religious experience here.

Worst:  Allman Brothers, Denver in 1972.  As it happens same show as Yes, above.  We had to flee.

Last:  Eagles, Boulder, CO in 1978 or perhaps '79.  Good show.  Or maybe it was Dylan, same era.

To define concert, I'm assuming minimum 10,000 capacity.  So why was my Last concert in 1978?  That's 30 years ago, man!  Because I discovered the joys of seeing bands in more intimate settings, where you can actually see the players, maybe actually talk to them, maybe actually have a beer with them.  I've seen countless bands in smaller venues (under 500 capactiy) since this time, ranging from Dire Straits to Harry 'Sweets' Edison to Chick Corea and Stan Getz.  If it's over $50 a ticket and the venue is over 5000, I ain't there.

Cliff Richard (at the London Palladium) - the first...

The best fond memories for Beck Bogart and Appice with Flash as the support circa 1974 at Loughborough University - although Arthur Lee with Love at DeMontford Hall Leicester 2003(?) doing the complete Forever Changes prpbably pips it.

Worst and the first I walked out of

Pink Fairies at Kingston Upon Thames Swimming Baths, autumn 1970 or 71 - the acoustics were atrocious and PF were too loud - I survived 2 songs before it became too  painful. (I had enjoyed a full set by the PFs the June before at Royal Holloway College in much better surroundings). More recently walked out on a Level 42 gig: great playing but a really boring choice of tunes - instead went out of the hall and talked for 45 minutes to the support act Steve Lawson, selling CDs in the foyer!!.

best: Possibly ProgPower I, 2006.Therion/ Threshold/ Pagan's Mind/ Orphaned Land.  Beat that line-up!Approve
worst: Flower Kings, Whitchurch Festival, 2000.  So lacklustre, it was untrue.  half the audience headed for the bar.
last: Queensryche, Wolverhampton, in June.

First: Ezra opening the Summers End festivel in 06. The start of a very good weekend
Best: Pain of Salvation headlining last years Summers End festivel. Absolutely stunning
Last: Spock's Beard at Bilstons Robin 2 at the start of last month. Very good gig, shame Frost* were a no-show though.
Worst: Semi-acoustic by John Beck and John Mitchell at Summers End 06.  40 minutes of god awful pop songs  from It Bites.Dead

Other quality bands I've seen:
White Willow- made me go buy all their CD's after seeing them
Strangefish- a band that knew how to have fun
Pure Reason Revolution- big energy, excellent performance
The Flower Kings- avoided their super long epics and put on a great show for an audience that  had been on its feet for two days.
Isis- sound much better than on CD.
Tinyfish- see Strangefish
Threshold
Riverside
IQ
Nightwish
Kamelot
Magenta

Edit: I saw Neil Diamond Shocked last night.  He is quite the entertainer and puts on a really good show.  And everybody can sing along to Sweet Caroline.  Coming to America is an awesome song.  Almost kind of proggy pop.  He uses 2 guitarists, a bass player who uses both an electric bass and at times a stand-up bass.  Two keyboardists-I think 1 might have been using a Moog but I'm not too up on equipment stuff.  He also has a drummer and a percussionist who were quite good.  He also has 4 horn guys playing various brass and 3 back-up singers.  I think he is probably my biggest guilty pleasure.  Definitely not my normal musical fare.  I don't own any CDs from him, and yet this was the 3rd or 4th time I have seen him live and I always seem to enjoy it.  Sorry.  I hope that I haven't further shattered/soured the rest of your opinions of me. First: Unless opera counts, Wise Guys in 2006. Great performance, though the bass vocalist was unable to contribute to the show, as he had bad bruises.
Worst: I think Jane, 2006. A local hardcore band. Also, an American jazz trumpet player (do not remember the name) qualifies. His playing was so dull that most of the people were heading to the bar or even left the hall. It was for free, so it is not that bad..
Best: Blind Guardian in 2007. The people were like crazy and the band was in a great mood. The only low point were the support band Astral Doors..
Last: See above, unless musicals count. By the way, I am going to see The Musical Box performing A Trick of the Tail in October.

Sometimes I wish I had been around at some gigs in the 70's/80's, but I think I have to be satisfied with cover bands..

Worst: I've yet to attend a bad concert, actually. (Though I've witnessed a few dreadful opening acts Dead).
Best: Fish in DC this year. Ween and Neal Morse were just as good as that show, but they were all very different experiences.
Last: Fish

Next: King Crimson in Philly, then the Flower Kings in New York, and then Opeth in Philly a month after that.

It's been a great year for prog concerts. Big%20smile

First: A Finnish funkmetalrocketc. band Rasmus in my then-hometown Kuopio the year 1997. Later they changed their name to The Rasmus and started making poppier material, which some of you might even have heard.

Worst: Dream Theater in Helsinki on the Systematic Chaos tour. They did actually play a few good songs, but raped them all in the shredding sections or did only small parts of them in a medley. I've never yawned so much at a rock show, and I wasn't even tired.

Best: The three times I've seen Sigur Rós, twice from the front row (one of them an acoustic mini performance in a movie theatre). Fourth one coming in a month, we'll see if it lives up to expectations.

Last: It was either Iron Maiden or Circusfolk in July, both very good.

He didn't perform Holly Holy this time, but that is a very good song.  The one song that I haven't seen him perform that I would have liked to was Heartlight, which I have always liked because of its connection with E.T., which was a movie that I just loved as a young 'un.

First: Franz Ferdinand

Best: The Flaming Lips or The Cure

Worst: Ted Leo & The Pharmacists (Opening for Pearl Jam, they were awful and had no originality)

The worst audience would have to go to the folks at the Lou Reed show I saw in April. Very rude and wouldn't stop talking through the show. At one point Lou stopped mid-song and asked "Would you rather me play the song or do you want to keep talking?"

Last: Pearl Jam

Next: Kill Hannah (Don't worry, it's a gift for my girlfriend, but I'll be seeing King Crimson the next day on the 11th, and Radiohead on the 12th!)

I wish I were born earlier though. I'd love to have seen the shows the other users have been posting about about!

Other Groups I've seen...

Smashing Pumpkins
Roger Waters
Explosions in the Sky
Sons & Daughters
Cut Copy
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
65daysofstatic
Disco Biscuits

I will be seeing Radiohead, King Crimson, and Nine Inch Nails as well. Thumbs%20Up

And hopefully ROSfest and NEARfest next year!

First:  Avatar (later named themselves, Savatage) LOL (1983)  Friends back yard.
Worst: Seether, Breaking Benjamin, 3 Days Grace ... Forget the name of the tour, was a few months ago.
Best: Jazzfest in New Orleans (2 Day, event) (1998)  Though the first Livestock (3 day event here in FL) was equally as good.
Last:  Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour (Last Tuesday)

first: ELO 1978 Oakland Ca.   with my mother who was (is) an ELO freak.

worst:  New Kids on the Block 1990 RFK stadium DC...    chaperoning 2 teenage girls and the sister of my girlfriend at the time.  The ticket was free.. and nothing rules more than seeing girls trying to rip each others hair out... the whole experience ruining by the music though.  Oh well....I was well rewarded for my auditory sacrifice though LOL
Best:  Dave Brubeck and sons.  Marquette Mich 1993     in a small college auditorium with maybe 20 people. Got to meet and discuss music with a living legend.  Hell of a nice guy as well

Last:  Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Mastodon, and some sh*t band called Machine Head in Rome's Olympic Stadium last summer.  A real experience... and with great company.

I've only been to five concerts: Neil Young, Deep Purple (with Steppenwolf), Rush (twice, last year and this year), and Gigantour 2008.

Most recent: Rush, Snakes and Arrows 2008 in Atlanta. It was cool.

First: Neil Young, 2002. It was good, but I don't remember half of it.

Best: Half of Gigantour 2008. I saw Children of Bodom and Megadeth. It was the coolest thing to ever exist The only two concerts that would have been better for me would be a Frank Zappa concert and a Pantera concert. Deep Purple with Steppenwolf and 2007 Rush tie in second place.

Worst: The other Half of Gigantour 2008. I don't know how much modern metal you guys know of, but seeing High on Fire, In Flames and Job For A Cowboy in concert is like a musical Guantanamo Bay. High on Fire has the same exact random chord progression in every song they do, Job For A Cowboy was so bad that they dropped out of a  guitar solo because the guy forgot the notes, and In Flames was just plain bad and boring. The worst part about In Flames was that me and my friends had people moshing all around us to crappy death metal power ballads they were playing, and at one point it seemed like In Flames would steal the show from Megadeth. At least I got a kick out of the Job For A Cowboy pig squeals (listen to one of their songs and you'll know what I'm talking about).

Funny you mention it, I was precisely talking about a similar experience with Guigo and Eric in the chat room.........But at least my case was unwillingly. LOL

In 1991 I was in Santiago de Chile for a business and read an advice.

Amnesty International Concert pro Human Rights in Chile .- Rock desde las Cenizas (Rock from the Ashes)

Artists:
  1. Peter Gabriel
  2. Rubén Blades
  3. Sinead O'Connor
  4. Stng
  5. Jackson Browne with Jeff Porcaro

Saturday from 3: PM

The list was the one expected for this kind of shows, all of them are left oriented and intelligent people (Rubén Blades had just finished Laws career in Harvard andwas even candidate to Panama President's office in those days), plus at least Peter, Ruben and Jackson Browne are among my favorite artists.

Of course I saw but didn't cared about a New Kids on the Block advice that was two meters away, they were announced alone, so I believed probably was in another place.

So I called Lima and told the office I had to sign some papers on Monday (I really had finished on Friday LOL), and got my tickets for US$ 20.00.

After some heaters, came Jackson Browne at 7:00 PM , great show witha fulñl Antara and Quena version of Lives in the Balance, then Ruben Blades (Spectacular) both gave very intelligent speechs about the people who vanished during Pinoche'ts regime plus a strong songcalled "Desaparecidos" (Missing) and even when I'm very right oriented, found them incredibly coherent and appropriate, being that Pinochet was a dictator and a criminal.

The Ruben Blades announces a surprise for all the young people THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK...............As you can imagine, the people that goes to an AI concert doesn't like boys bands, so there was silence, people looked astonished to each others (They had been announced but mostly in schools and kids places) only a huge group of kids in the back cheered.

What a terrible show, I remember shouting "They are not singing, their show is taped" (Which was truth), and people started to shout them, so they stopped their show and gave a speech...The poor guys didn't had a clue about Chile's situation, they started to talk incoherences about Human Rights to a fair trial (In a country where 50,000 had just disappeared without trial)  and have a weapon  (Do you imagine a boys band talking about human rights?), but people was nice, because that meant they were ending their show.

Thanks God, later came Sting who was OK, even Sinead was pleasant and Peter Gabriel closed the concert about 12:00 with an emotional speech mentioning the name of like 100 people missing that were in the Amnesty International list of prissoners of war, a great show that ended with a very emotional performance of BIKO with native instruments.

I still ask myself...Who was the genius who invited TNKOTB to a serious, young adults oriented concert?

Iván

2. See the one above, but I don't really remember much! But I'm sure it wasn't great.
But there was this band that opened for Dax Riggs that probably the worst band I've ever seen live...So bad... Oh god....
3. Nearfest X- Surely. Banco, Peter Hammill, Koenji Hyakkei, etc. 'Nough said.
4. At the Gates!

First: Dream Theater Chaos In Motion, 2007 @ Jones Beach. Great show.
Worst: Ive only been to like 5 or 6 shows, none of which were bad. Van Halen's opening act sucked but thats about it.
Best: Progressive Nation '08 @ Terminal 5 in NYC (2nd Night). Unbelieveable experience. Three absolutely blew my mind, Between the Buried and Me is great (met Paul!), Opeth was awesome (Mikael is hilarious), and of course seeing Dream Theater again was unreal.
Last: Rush Snakes & Arrows Tour @ Jones Beach, amazing show. Really close with Progressive Nation but have Three, BTBAM, and Opeth gives it the extra push.

Cool topic, I think a good added category would have been most.

First: The Eagles on their first farewell tour 2004.

Worst: Strangely, The Eagles on their latest Long Road out of Eden tour, terrible set list combined with their not being exactly the best performers ever made its placement here.

Best: The Mars Volta on their second show in Philly 2005. Amazing set list, incredible performance by far the best on stage antics I've seen, I was a foot from the stage, crowd was full of energy.

Last: The Eagles as of now, The Dear Hunter as of 24 hours from this post.

I've seen a lot of concerts despite what The Eagles grabbing three categories might suggest.

Best: Rush - 1994 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYkUre8FWIQ - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYkUre8FWIQ   I was at this one.
Latest: Rush - 2008 Joe Louis Arena, Detroit (It would have been Yes, but it was cancelled).

LOL

Edit once again:  I saw REO Speedwagon last night at my local city summer festival.  They played a free show.  They have been around since 1971, back in the days when prog ruled the earth.  It was a decent show.

First: Steppenwolf (1969) South Mountain Arena, NJ

Best: way too many to list but here's a go, Procol Harum, King Crimson, Yes, Academy of Music, NYC 1971, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Capitol Theater, NJ (1973),  Genesis (Gabriel, Hackett, Collins, Rutherford & Banks) Capitol Theatre,NJ (1973)

Worst: No doubt T.Rex, Fillmore East, NYC 1971 (narrowly beat out Golden Earring Central Park, NYC).  T.Rex absolutely one of the worst live performing bands I've ever seen.
Nearly forgot to add Ginger Baker's Air Force Central Park, NYC 1973 or 4, the only concert I ever walked out of.  Dreadful.

Last: John McLaughlin & The 4th Dimension Keswick Theatre, PA (2007)

First: Dutch band Alquin in 1974 at a small gymnastic hall in Scheveningen (Holland), I noticed more musicans (at least 10 including a numerous brass section) on stage than spectators, I was 13 years old and this was my first step into the world of progrock although it took a few years before I was converted (see my avatar Wink ).

Best: I cannot choose between Pink Floyd - The Wall in 1980 in London (Gilmour on top of the wall during Comfortably Numb, breathtaking), Yes - Going For The One in 1977 (Wakeman with his 5 Minimoogs and Howe with his guitar museum), Rush - Moving Pictures in 1983 (awesome Xanadu rendition with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson on their Rickenbacker and Gibson double-neck guitars) and Uk - Danger MOney in 1979 (the androgyne Eddie Jobson on his transparent electric violin, magical). And I would like to mention the Canadian Genesis tribute band The Musical Box, their The Lamb tour was so compelling and exciting and the all 3 slides machines worked!

UK

Worst: Galahad on a triple progrock festival in the mid-Nineties, plain rock and too loud Dead

Last (I prefer 'latest ' Wink ): Anekdoten a few months ago, some psychedelic improvisations were mighty close to the mindblowing excitement of early Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett-era) and .. that lush Mellotron sound by the gorgeous Anna-Sofi Approve !

Fortunately, none of the concerts has been bad so far.
It's not easy to name the best, but Yes(2003), Marillion(2007), Pain of Salvation(2005), and Dream Theater(2002) were all awesome).
The last was Pain of Salvation this June. It was very good, like in 2007, but not as good as in 2005.

I saw Big Neil a few years back and he was excellent! He had a revolving stage!

My first was Iron Maiden in 81 with Paul Di'Anno

Last was my mate's band Battle of the War Machines

Worst was Ozric Tentacles at the Reading Festival. I fell asleep.

First: I'm not sure. It could be Rainbow, back in ... 1982? My peer group was into hard rock, and I could stand the most melodic of the bands. Rainbow I liked in those days. Since I discovered bands like Genesis and Yes I lost my interest in most metal music.

Best: The most impressive was Pink Floyd in 1988. Without Waters, but what a great show and what great music! I wasn't yet a Floyd listener in those days, and I was taken by surprise. Still, if it is purely for the music, I'd say Camel, in the Dust and Dreams tour. No show, just an amazing band and amazing music.

Worst: a lot of opening acts for the big bands, but from the bands I chose to go to: Genesis in the We Can't Dance Tour, because even most of Collins' jokes were recycled from the tour before.

Last: Asia a few months ago. My friends, who went for the big names, not for the band itself, thought it was a bad show. I liked it, to be honest. But well, I really like Asia's first album, and it was nice to see them in concert once, and I thought it was a good show.

First Concert - The Who, Manchester Apollo approx 1979, impressive first gig eh?

Worst - too tough to decide, I've seen loads of bands and couldn't pick out a worst one. Most disappointing however was Yes at Birmingham NEC on 90125 tour. Awful setlist.

Best - Pallas at Manchester Gallery circa 1982/3 stands out. About 100 punters in, Euan Lowson scared me half to death. The set included a 20 minute Atlantis/March on Atlantis ( mostly instrumental ) and I was totally blown away.

Last - Def Leppard at MEN Arena.

First concert: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Blonde Redhead. It was awesome as it was two of my favorite bands at the time and it was my first concert. Blonde Redhead were a bit too feedbacky and screechy for my tastes then.

Worst: hmm....I played a horribly organized show that my band was supposed to open for, then ended up headlining for some wack-ass reason. It was awful. Because we the opening act, closed the show, everyone had left by the time we set up. You know how a lot of people come to shows late because they don't want to sit thru the opener? Well the same rule apparently applies when the dumbass band that organized the show schedules you to close it. It was awful. We played to the sound guy and a couple members of the previous band. In a cramped bar.

Although at least we were allowed to "rock". We had a show after that where we had been ASKED to play for an employee appreciation party at the campaign I was working at. So of course we said we'd play. It was during the day, at a bar. Two nice settings for some rock and roll. After 4 songs we were asked to play quietly so people could talk. Not because we were bad or anything. We were good, but the organizer didn't want a rock band to play in actuality. They wanted a lame acoustic guitar singer/songwriter person.   Or Muzak I guess. Either way that was equally frustrating and bad.

Best: tie between Boris, ACid Mothers Temple w/ Danava, and The Ex w/ Getatchew Merkurya. All three shows were absolutely incredible. Couldn't pick one out as being better than the rest.

Last: The Ex w/ Getatchew Merkurya. An amazing show that I wish I could see almost everyday, again. Old punk rockers playing with an even older Ethiopian Jazz Sax legend = the best thing ever. IF they're coming to your city GO SEE IT.

Ouch ouch.

The band I use to manage was asked to play at the opening of a clothes/fashion shop in a Southampton Mall. After playing 1 song the Mall managers told us they'd recieved two complaints about the noise and we were told to stop. Later we found out the first complaint was made 20 minutes before the band started playing. Angry

Yes and they have studied and experimented with many styles and as a.. sort of backing group for this guy and him accompanying them it is absolutely incredible. The audience started out looking like a mix of punks on one side and ethiopian expatriates on the other. Then everyone mixed together and the place was one big dance mash and a real good time. There's some videos of the two playing together on youtube, but they don't even capture a little bit of the magic that is at the show.

Well, as far as i know, so far, there has been only one show in 30 years.. (I was right at the front, wohoo) but a while ago Bobbie write something about maybe releasing some new material and touring america... but it was all very preliminary, i think. However, Wootton will be playing two gigs at a small venue here in sweden in december.. so yay me, and all who live in stockholm, i guess :)

But i will be keeping an eye out, as should all. Comus live is still (though i never saw them back then, for obvious reasons) just mindblowing.

Edit: oh, and they have a myspace! :)

First: Bersuit Vergarabat(i dont remember if in 2000, or 2001) : a catchy and versatile rock band from Argentina most famous for an anti-government song.

Best: I don't know whether to choose Yes' 35th anniversary one or The Flower Kings in late 2006. Steve Howe was incredible in the former, while the Flower Kings made a fantastic, intimate, passionate show, tho the sound was too loud in it.

Worst: Probably that Bersuit Vergarabat. Not that it was bad, far from it. It was a fun show with condoms in the air rather than balloonsLOL. If not them, maybe Progressive Nation for having a disappointing Opeth show, and an unbearable "Beneath the Buried and Me"

Last: Progressive Nation '08

Wow, what a great thread, you've seen some great shows amongst you all! Clap

First :- Pendragon December '87 Marquee London. Clap

Worst............ oh, is it really polite to say?  I try to find the good in everything........... but 2 REALLY jump in my mind..............
Flowerkings, CRS awards 2006,  "H" Oxjam 2006 both were SO dull I left before the end (despite the beer on offer), although FK's did get the kids crying, so maybe some amusement was gleaned after all, but the 9 hour round trip for half a gig cancelled out that small merriment. I agree with Fandango, dull, dull, dull. where oh where has the "rock" gone?

Best:- Either..... George Michael @ Earl's Court (really cos I never thought I'd get a chance to see him and it was REALLY emotional! )  or  Pendies at The Peel June 08 (read Sigod's review, it wasn't only me that thought it was a pretty spesh night!) Tongue

Last :- Minnuendo Festival 08. For those that were there, you know it was a pretty special event thanks to mother nature and some good old fashioned grit and stubborness on the parts of the musicians! Threshold eventually left stage at about 5.30am I think! Bl**dy Marvellous stuff! Clap

I have seen some stunning gigs over the years, lots and lots of "bests" not really many "worsts" and looking forward VERY much to the "nexts" Big%20smile

Worst: I'm not sure.  There were a couple that turned out disappointing because of other circumstances.  Not sure of a worst.

LOL

Edit once again:  I saw REO Speedwagon last night at my local city summer festival.  They played a free show.  They have been around since 1971, back in the days when prog ruled the earth.  It was a decent show.

Edit again: I saw Journey and Cheap Trick on Tuesday night.  Heart was supposed to perform also, but one of the Wilson sisters had a throat infection and so they cancelled.  I always like seeing Journey perform and they put on a very good show.  The new singer has a good voice and does sound quite a bit like Steve Perry.  He was also all over the place on the stage; very energetic.  I was kind of disappointed with Cheap Trick.  They were the opening act and quite frankly were as bad as most regular unknown opening acts.  They only played 3 songs that were recognizable to me.  I didn't recognize the rest of their songs.  Probably was a good show for fans, but quite disappointing for the casual fan.

First - Barclay James Harvest at Newcastle City Hall on the Octoberon tour 1976.

Worst - Difficult but in recent memory The sensational Alex Harvey Bands roadcrew totally ruined the gig with a wall of noise sound.

Best - many that could compete for this but Rush at Newcastle on the A Farewell To Kings in 1978 has got to be one of them.

Last - Petangle at the Sage in Gateshead in july this year, brilliant!

Best Concert: Rush in 2003 in Baltimore.  They ruled.
Worst & Last are the same one: Unholy Alliance Tour in Spokane, WA 2006.  It sucked.  Too much metalcore, the sound system sucked ass, and Slayer was in poor form.

first: I almost went to see Ivor Cutler in 1981, but didn't.  First was some local reggae band, I forget their name.
worst: I was at Live8, Mariah Carey's set was atrocious, plus I discovered I was surrounded by huge Mariah Carey fans who sang along loudly.
best: I was at Live8 and I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 1972
last: I saw Metallica the day before yesterday, at the O2
