Prog albums can be cheap or crazily expensive. Which cost you a fortune but were worth every penny?

Seven Reizh-Samsara comes witha full-blown book -cost about $50.00
Dave Greenslade/Peter Woodroofe- The Pentateuch , great graphics but the music is so-so. still worth the outlay.
King Crimson-The Great Deceiver 4CD box set-probably the raunchiest live Prog ever. Bee-Zahr!
Mint LP version of Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come-Journey , a space classic.
Gary Boyle-The Dancer LP on yellow vinyl

Oh right! I started the post, so I should list mine!

-Yes - Yesyears (box set) - It's out of print now. It looked cool so I bought it. It also has lots of bonus tracks.
-Comus - Song to Comus (complete collection) - It wasn't too expensive ($35 + shipping), but it was still worth it.
-Chris Squire - Fish out of Water (CD/DVD autographed copy) - It came with a DVD and it was autographed, so it wasn't a bad deal. Oh and the music's pretty decent too.
-Various Italian Symphonic Prog albums - I don't remember which ones cost a lot and which didn't, but some got pricey, though all definitely worth it.
-Beethoven - Complete Piano Sonatas - Okay, not prog. Still, it cost a lot (~$50) but for 10 discs of quality classical music I consider it a good purchase.

As much as I love music, I don't know if I could pay THAT much for a CD.

Point well-illustrated. IF I did have alot of money however, I guess it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Tongue

Keys to Ascension I & II was pricey, but well worth the investment.

Different Stages by Rush may be the best live album that I've ever heard.

Back in 1976, when I was a grad student making a whopping $400 a month, I dropped something like $100 on Keith Jarrett's The Sun Bear Concerts (a massive 10 LP set).  No regrets at all.

In the early/mid 90's, with no Internet and only one big CD store in Lima, they sold the CD's at the prices they wanted, specially the ones from Europe or Asia, the most expensive ones I bought were:

  1. Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record Japanese Limited Edition: US$ 60.00
  2. Triumvirat 's Illusions on a Double Dimple: US$ 46.00
  3. Triumvirat's Spartacus: US% 46.00
  4. Pink Floyd's DSOTM With Gold border: US$ 45.00
  5. PFM's Per un Amico: US$ 40.00

Marillion's deluxe edition of Marbles was pretty pricey at around $40+, but well worth it. One of the best discs I own.

however, the new deluxe edition of Happiness Is The Road surpasses that in cost. I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Spock's Beard - The Light limited artwork edition (number 825 of 3000)

That cost me a pretty penny, though not as much as I would have expected! The package is as big as my damn head!

Oldfield 's Elements 4 CD box is well worth the expense (solid plastic packaging!) and off course the Roxy Music compilation "The Thrill of It All" is another winner though pricey but the quality , the design , the info is , as usual , very classy.

A space object landed somewhere in the Pampas (in a Fireball) and young cacho, bemused by his youthful curiosity , couldn't resist opening the core . The Prog bug from Cygnus-X penetrated his body via the lungs and he has been a proghead ever since, unbeknownst to him infected for life . LOL

Its funny how you mention "expensive" .Because If i were American or European , I would be glad with the low prices you pay for your records and the variety you have to buy!!!

My most expensive choices were:

Quadrophenia (digipack) $ 120 (U$$ 40)
Welcome back my friends...$ 77 (U$$ 23)
A hard days night $ 60 ( U$$ 18)
In the land of grey and pink (U$$ 15)

Considering my income is not in  US dollars those were quite expensive.

Most expensive albums i've bought:

Symphony X - The Odyssey ($26. It's a pretty good album, but not sure if it's worth that much)
Frank Zappa - The Grand Wazoo ($26. AWESOME ALBUM!!! Worth it, but i wish it was cheaper)
Focus - Hamburger Concerto ($21. AWESOME ALBUM!!! Worth every penny)
Kebnekaise - III (Vinyl, $19,50. I guess it was worth it, but it feels sour when i see it go for lower prices on the internet)
