Today it came to me that in the past we have established the most popular band in prog-history (King Crimson) and the most popular album (Thick as a Brick), but I still don't know what is considered the greatest song! So I decided to take the challenge, and figure it out with your help... I've developed a process that I hope will lead us to the final answer: I took ten bands that seem to be the most respected, and I'll take ten songs from each that seem to be some of the most respected. After I post a list of the songs, you'll get a chance to say which definitely should stay, which should be removed AND what I should replace them with! When we have the top 10's, I'll start a series of polls after which we should have our winner! The bands are: King Crimson Genesis Yes Van Der Graaf Generator Pink Floyd Jethro Tull Rush Gentle Giant Camel Emerson, Lake & Palmer I realize some of your favorite bands aren't included (even some of my favorites), but these are the bands I genuinely feel have a shot in this tournament. So what do you say if we get the boll rolling...? I think that ITSY is taking a different approach to the same goal, but you might want to check out his thread where he is having everyone list their top 50 or top 100 favorite songs so he can create a list of the ultimate songs.

I think it's 100 to 500 songs, if it's the same thread, but hey, it might be interesting to compare the two. For me, I wouldn't need any procedure. I'd just go with Awaken - though a few years ago I would have said A Passion Play (if that's a song). |
