I'm curious what personality types are here. This is from the Myers-Briggs personality inventory, adapted from Carl Jung's typologies.
I or E: introverted or extroverted
S or N: sensing or intuitive
T or F: thinking or feeling
P or J: perceiving or judging
You can take the test at:

There's already a poll about this, with the exact same link. But why not bury the old poll ... maybe our personalities have depeloped since then!
BTW: Used to be an INFP ... I tried it again recently and now I'm INFJ.

I hate to be a 'stick in the mud', but the Myers-Briggs typology tests are notoriously inaccurate and....pseudo-scientific. Okay, okay they can be fun if you like that sort of thing

how so? | Well...basically, the research doesn't support them (I would...or you would have to look up the studies and expert pieces about the issue if you're interested). I'm a bit rusty on this, but I can say that there's a running joke in the psychology dept at my uni about the M-B tests (can't remember that either but it has something to do with astrology). Typology tests are often used with first year college students to initiate them into self-analysis and to help them choose a career path, at which psychologists say such tests are not an accurate representation of an individual's personality. Self-inventory is not as reliable as assessment by a certified professional...or a test that is backed by funding + research. If you are testing yourself, the door is opened to a slew of outside factors (ie. "demand characteristics") that can affect the way you respond (ie. some people may WANT to be an introvert...or have an inaccurate self-concept that would reflect in their answers; almost anything you can think of here). How can you tell which tests actually are supported by peer reviewing and research? Ask an expert, research it for yourself, etc...you will have to pay for a good test because research requires support/funding.
Without going too much into this...I'll just pick on two specific problems with the Jung typology test. First of all, it's over-simplified: e vs. i. You are either one or the other. This ties into the other big problem in that the "vs" eliminates the manifestation of dual characteristics and different moods (eg. I'm the life of the party at times, one of the most "engaging" people you'll meet, but when I'm not 'feelin' it', I'm as withdrawn as someone on the downswing of bipolar).
...Actually, I'll stop there, this stuff IS fun for the less-pedantic-than-I. Just don't live by the results here, you wouldn't want to lock yourself into one of these rigid categories. One thing that these free tests are good for, is that folks can become intested in aspects of themselves (and human beings in general) that they might not otherwise engage in...get the ball rolling, so to speak.

@jimmy_row:
Of course these tests are only a bit of fun ... I'd say that the "e vs. i" is usually quite accurate, but it only confirms what people already knew about themselves. I really think that they're either one or the other ... if you're both then you could be suffering from depression/bi-polar, which is not the point of a personality test. The other thing which this test shows is whether you're quick to judge (j) or tend to keep an open mind (p), but I'd say that the latter in this case could also be a case of avoidance (simply being unable to make up your mind).

| Whether or not one is quick to judge is not always a matter that they can analyze themselves, especially not with a close-ended question. People can show consistency and a bewildering amount of deviation in the way they make decsions and solve problems...I'm really harping on the personal expectation demand characteristic because it applies most strongly here (and the results speak for themselves in that this test can be quite accurate but even more often inaccurate, and thus reliability & validity will fluctuate depending on who you ask). We know that in dealing with deep characterstics of themselves, subjects are going to become considerably emotional, thus decisions...results will depend strongly on feelings - feelings of the moment.
Here is an example of how someone could feel unsatisfied with their results:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Meyer's Briggs is very inaccurate for me. I remember when I was taking it, most of the answers honestly depended on how I felt. On the day when our scores were revealed to us, the instructor chose me as an example because I scored to one extreme (I forget what my exact score was, but it was very feeley, very emotional). He asked me to read a description of a coffee mug I had written, and it surprised him because it was very quantitative and analytical.
I don't take personality tests well because I tend to pick up on what the question is trying to find and answer in one way or another.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And getting more specific wrt this thread, being that this is a progressive rock site, folks may feel a social pressure to be open minded, or to see themselves as open minded because that is a valued trait here. Whether we like to admit it or not, most people have a self ideal somewhere in the mix that interacts with norms that will almost always affect the way they make assessments, especially concerning themselves. So if I WANT to be that open minded person, I'm going to devise ways to rationalize my choices on the questionaire, and then I'll be super-happy when the results come in.

I'm an INFJ, with a 'distinctively expressed feeling personality' (the others are all moderately expressed). Although I wouldn't call myself introverted, I do have some traits of that kind of personality, and I am very definitely a 'feeling' person. Now I have to get Micky to take the test too, and then we can take the Jung Marriage Test, to see how compatible we are.

I swear!
I'm really burning, fit to boil up the sea,

I'm feeling extrovert.
Instead of quiet and shy I'm really dying to fly.
I feel like someone else,
Yes I do, yes I do, yes I do.
I feel like someone else,
I feel new, not so blue.
I feel,

Obviously "Do you like parties and socializing?" and "Do you spend your leisure time alone?" are the exact same outcome, but often I answer one yes and the other no. These are just depressing for me because I'm moderately everything and I feel like I have no personality. Yay, contradiction.

Yay, the first ENFP
very expressed extravert (89%) moderately expressed intuitive personality (25&) moderately expressed feeling personality (25%) slightly expressed perceiving personality (11%)
Don't really know what that means... but I'm content with myself, I think...
Like the other Idealists, Champions are rather rare, say two or three percent of the population, but even more than the others they consider intense emotional experiences as being vital to a full life. Champions have a wide range and variety of emotions, and a great passion for novelty. They see life as an exciting drama, pregnant with possibilities for both good and evil, and they want to experience all the meaningful events and fascinating people in the world. The most outgoing of the Idealists, Champions often can't wait to tell others of their extraordinary experiences. Champions can be tireless in talking with others, like fountains that bubble and splash, spilling over their own words to get it all out. And usually this is not simple storytelling; Champions often speak (or write) in the hope of revealing some truth about human experience, or of motivating others with their powerful convictions. Their strong drive to speak out on issues and events, along with their boundless enthusiasm and natural talent with language, makes them the most vivacious and inspiring of all the types.
Fiercely individualistic, Champions strive toward a kind of personal authenticity, and this intention always to be themselves is usually quite attractive to others. At the same time, Champions have outstanding intuitive powers and can tell what is going on inside of others, reading hidden emotions and giving special significance to words or actions. In fact, Champions are constantly scanning the social environment, and no intriguing character or silent motive is likely to escape their attention. Far more than the other Idealists, Champions are keen and probing observers of the people around them, and are capable of intense concentration on another individual. Their attention is rarely passive or casual. On the contrary, Champions tend to be extra sensitive and alert, always ready for emergencies, always on the lookout for what's possible.
Champions are good with people and usually have a wide range of personal relationships. They are warm and full of energy with their friends. They are likable and at ease with colleagues, and handle their employees or students with great skill. They are good in public and on the telephone, and are so spontaneous and dramatic that others love to be in their company. Champions are positive, exuberant people, and often their confidence in the goodness of life and of human nature makes good things happen.
Joan Baez, Phil Donahue, Paul Robeson, Bill Moyer, Elizibeth Cady Stanton, Joeseph Campbell, Edith Wharton, Sargent Shriver, Charles Dickens, and Upton Sinclair are examples of Idealist Champions

The percentages change slightly every time I do the test, but I more often than not come out as an INFJ. It's kinda odd though, because around this time last year (which was also before I even started going on forums), I would be home about 2-4 days a week, and the rest of the time just out being social, partying or whatever, so I wonder if that means if I did the test back then would I have come out as extrovert instead? But for the most part, I'm fairly reclusive and lately have been, although for the last few weekends I've been going out, but generally I wouldn't talk to everyone at the parties. I'm usually content with going on the internet, playing guitar for hours each day, transcribing/writing music and listening to music, and the occasional going out.

I've done these tests before, and I consistently score as INFP, although the score on each element varies (depending on the wording of the questions and how I feel that day, I guess!).
