I've always had a laptop at home, and appreciate the fact it doesn't take up as much space as a desktop. At present I'm even using a laptop at work, which I like a lot.

If money allowed though, I would get both, have the laptop for perhaps just surfing the netz, while I could use the better horsepower of a desktop for more intensive applications like music recording etc

I use desktops at work and home.  I got my wife a nice laptop, which she loves.

I could definitely use a desktop for all the hell I put my laptop for, but the laptop is easy to carry around. One day a desktop but for now my laptop suits me fine for now

Laptop. I rarely carry it around, but it takes much less space than a desktop would.

Desktop all the way. A few years ago I switched from desktop to laptop, but three years later I went back to desktop. Or to be more precise: I bought a 32" LCD TV and a desktop PC and put them in my living room. I'm very happy with that setup, and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Sometimes I miss the laptop though ... but it should be more portable than the usual ones. That's why I'll definitely look into these new EEE PCs or whatever they're called, they're fully fledged computers with really small displays, for the price of a handheld.

It depends on the application for me. Desktops when running more memory intensive applications. I use my laptop the most though. I take it on site with me and use it home while I sit on the patio drinking a cold one and harrassing you folks. Cool

Laptops have too many problems.. they break much more often than desktops.... they are more fragile and they are not as reliable in my view.... But of course the size and the looks help.... So I go with having BOTH.

I have a pc desktop and a mac laptop. I prefer the Mac for the portability but the desktop is easier to use. So I guess I am on the fence on this one.

Gotta go with the Lappy. since I own a MacBook, I dont need hardcore preformance for awesome computer games, therefore I dont need a desktop.

A desktop, but not for it's power. I could easily find a laptop more resourceful than my desktop. But, first of all, I'm a collector; the pc is always open, and I plug in and out new hard ware all the time, trying to get the best out of an old machine. ATM my HD rests on my Finnish - English dictionary. You can't really go opening a laptop and applying a new DVD-rom or something. Of course all these can be bought as outer components, but with 20 gadgets on a USB leash really takes away they point of a faptop.

Also, now that I look around, the desktop is a hard object, that very nicely keeps all the stuff that I have on my table in order. Most of these papers and books and cds would fall if it weren't for the wall that is the computer.

However, I've been thinking of getting a faptop sooner or later. This because it would be great to do work on the balcony or in the garden. Also, I'd be able to do trips and take my work along, for example, I wouldn't get bored if I went home to see my family I could even translate books in the train. Also, if I did get the faptop at some point, I'd install Linux on it. But since it doesn't handle Photoshop or Sibelius, I need the XP I have, so, with or without the faptop, I'll be keeping my desktop.
