I have my small issues with this band (the absolute negation of melody, the hardcorish vocals) but what can I do but surrender myself to the machinery that the rhythmic section is... The riffs in guitar are complex rhythmically but what really MAKES this band is the SUPERB drummer they have... while his hands play one thing, mostly simple 4/4 or regular signatures, his feet are on something else...he's just amazing and a truly original and unique drummer.... for those that don't see any use in double bass drums, ask this guy... and for those trying to choose the best metal drummer, I think, in my case, he's one of the most incredible ones I've seen... I mean, many times I hear drummers and I think "i would have problems doing that"... but then I hear him and I say "how the  can he play like that?" -------------

Haake is definitely one of my favorite drummers in metal, along with Bobby Jarzombek (Spastic Ink) and Mark Zonder (Fates Warning). He's got some really amazing polyrhythmics going on and it blows me away everytime. He plays fast and extremely accurate as well, a perfect drummer for Meshuggah's music! ------------- RIO/AVANT/ZEUHL - The best thing you can get with yer pants on! |

Was somewhat of a surprise to me, but apparently the reason for this was that they simply had so much time pressure, Haake didn't have the time to learn and record the drum tracks before they recorded the album. And apparently, he's not THAT fond of continuous double-bass pounding. I heard somewhere that some of the bass drum playing on "I" was put there digitally. But nevertheless, he's an amazing metal drummer. Just skip to the 5:40 mark of "I". this band has tons of technical skill. the drums are incredible and the music is tight and succinct. but it lacks the ability to make me care. i can appreciate what the band is doing though.

I didn´t realize until very reseantly how much I like this guy. I find myself doing ari drumming in a very Haacke fashion so I guess I must really like him. The man is a machine, perfect for Meshuggah, can´t think of anyone else that could do, let alone a best job, an equally good job!

Haake is a bit of a mind-boggler, but i think Morgan Agren deserves a mention as runner-for-the-money. Fredrik Thordendal's "Sol Niger WIthin" album, while being different than Meshuggah, still has a familiar rhythmic syncopated/polymetric feel to it, and Agren is incredible on that album. It's generally not as fast as some of Meshuggah's work, i don't think, but still pretty incredible stuff. But yes, Haake is a monster. |

Haake is defintely off the wall. I honestly don't always pay much attention to the drums in songs, but when I listen to Meshuggah, Haake's style compels me to listen to the drums much more closely than usual. -------------
