I usually read most of the reviews posted daily so right there I get reviews pretty randomly. I did try this new function. The first four were prog metal and its' various subgenres. Does this mean it's time for me to move on from Motorhead to (slightly) more complex metal ? Or that I listen to too much RPI and Symphonic ...
On a more serious note, could the random function be customized so as to allow the reviews limited to a person's preferences, say Krautrock and/or RIO ? This isn't something I would use, as I like to stumble upon new music.

Actually its a nice feature.
But what I really want is something more personalised, so you can get recomendations based on your own wants and tasts, Once we had a simple feature which linked albums to comparable albums based on reviewers ta'st. That didn't work p[erfectly, but with some fine tuning such an ideal can be achieved I guess. Maybe such a feature can be added to the random generator (if the generator knows who you are and what you like it can generate more specific information and reviews).
Random is pure gamble and guess, but when directed it can be a nice tool.

After the magificence of 'Selling Englad by the Pound', with its perfect conceptual conceit, GENESIS fell
apart while making this ill-advised, sprawling effort. Not content with charting the demise of the British
Empire, here the group went on to explote death, eternity, well everything. And they simply were not up to
the task. Part of the problem was the way it was put together. Usually PETER GABRIEL'S worst excesses were hidden
by the band, but here they are obvious. This is what you get if you let the man do what he wants,
ubfettered by group control. Fortunately for us all, he realised this himself and never tried anthing like this
in his solo career. If this album is the triumph others claim, why did he not do something similar again? And all this after such a promising start. The first two tracks are wonderful: the mellotron moment in 'Fly
on a Windshield' and the following commentary is superb. But although what follows makes an interesting
collection of good and atrocious ('The Cage', 'Carpet Crawlers' good, 'Back in NYC', the whole second disc
atrocious), it simply does not come together as a concept. And I so wanted it to. I still do, 30 years later. If
someone could unlock the secret of this album I'd be grateful. (Send me a message from my website at
www.russellkirkpatrick.com ...) And that second disc! Oh dear. It's not their best work musically; GENESIS' most die-hard fans don't claim it
is. So it stands or falls on the clarity and power of its concept. And, ladies and gentlement, it falls. Come
on, what are we really learning about ourselves here? How can we empathise with the central character?
Isn't this just a 'Hogweed' or 'Salamacis'-like romp through classical myth? Out of control. Needs pruning.
Needs focus. Borrow this album and give it a listen. That way you'll save yourself some cash. Harsh? Yes. But this miss
sits in the midst of a collection of genre-defining hits, and so its flaws stand out all the brighter.

I can list the last 5 reviews in the sub-genres pages, and add the option to list last 25, All reviews of that sub-genre.
Would that be useful ?

it might be helpfull, but the timing of the review is really not something I am interested in (maybe others are). generally reviews are only relevant to those who want to read them, which in the end is based on the album itself.
So a direction towards albums and subsequent reviews is more helpfull, than a direction to a review. The review may direct me towards the album, but it's only relevant if I know the reviewer, or am atracted by the reviewers enthousiasm. So that will only makes 5 star reviews worthwhile for adding on a subgenre page.
A real extra feature would be the possibility to rate the review (like on amazon etc) so we can express opinion on whether or not a review is good and displays reality, so a good review gets possitive votes which makes it easier to judge the value of the review itself.

I like the feature a lot, I think it's interesting, but I have one quick question. It seems to give a slight preference to people of rank (Prog reviewers, collabs, etc), and I'm wondering if that is true or just me being silly. I'm not against that idea, in fact in think it makes it slightly more useful, but I'm just curious.
Edit: I realize that maybe it's just that PR's and Collabs write long enough reviews, but I'd still like to know.

About TUXON's idea, regarding rating a review -- you have a scoop, it is indeed in the upcoming developpement version of the site !!!
about asimplemistake's one regarding wheter or not the random review only link to PR and COLL, that is wrong, it links to all reviews of over 200 char from forum members review.
Review made by non-member are not randomly selected in the query.

the point is that they write more, or at least should (I plead guilty for not doing enough of that), so of course the probability of a collab review popping up is higher

yes.. and I have had non-collab reviews come up ... have played around with that feature... mainly out of pure boredom to see how long it was before a review of mine came up
now reviewing reviews.... sounds interesting.... if feedback is to be included in the reviews... that is the point isn't it.. .to improve reivews.. not merely see your reviews get trashed if you are not exactly the best of reviewers. I wouldn't allow 'ratings only' reviews of reviews... doesn't serve any purpose but to give people another excuse to f**k with people and for feelings to get hurt. If someone is 'qualifited' to rate a review that someone invested time and effort into.. they damn well better explain why they rated as they did. I spend, even if it doesn't look like it... hours on a review... the first kid that trashes a review of mine for the hell of it is going to have answer some tough questions.

^ Agreed, I see a big risk in first spending a lot of time and thought writing the review, only to get it bashed by people who disagrees with the rating/conclusion and not what's wrong in an "objective" sense.

While I don't object to people assessing my work, I DO, and very strongly, to people who bash it for the hell of it. Therefore, expect some fireworks if I see someone giving a review that took me hours to write (and some do take that long) a one-star rating without any explanation. In my opinion, feedback is absolutely necessary in order to improve the quality of one's reviewing - and said feedback should be as constructive as possible.
