It is owned by Greg Walker.
It's History: Was first owned by Victor Peraino, Keyboardist for the band, Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come. Greg bought it from him for $800. Greg then loaned it to Spock's Beard member Ryo Okumoto. Any Mellotron you hear in Spock's Beard was this instrument. They used it both live and in the studio.

Wow! That's a nice machine Utah Man.
You said that this M400 is owned by Greg Walker so it was surely used on the Anglagard live album "Buried Alive". Greg Walker was the founder of the Prog-Fest in the 90's so it might be also used by several other bands during the Prog-Fest shows as well as Kingdom Come and Spock Beards.
Did you know the serial number and sounds that you have on the tape frame(s)?
Do you will do recordings with it? If it is so, i wil surely be interested to hear when finished.
Have a nice "trip" with your instrument.

Yea... I forgot to mention that... it WAS used by Anglagard when they performed here in the States.

There are 2 tape bank sets. The one right now installed is Strings, Cello, Choir Voices, etc.

That is beautiful. But I would be wary of any instrument that spent any time anywhere near Arthur Brown! It could induce a sudden urge to make the most stunning music ever to pass through you.

Kingdom Come was epic pwn. I guess that's the mellotron we hear on songs like Gypsy from the album Journey.

actually that is what probably makes me turn away from it, because I definitely prefer the old way of producing to the "better" new one, which sounds too sterile in my opinion

It all depends on what we are talking about, for me the sound of a real Mellotron is not sterile at all, even if it's recorded on a hard drive... ;)

Sorry you don't like the tunes BaldJean... Actually, I agree with you regarding "old way" production techniques. Much of my music is recorded directly onto analog tape.

I know this will be sacriledge to Mellotron addicts, but you really should see/hear the digital Memotron:
Evidently built like a tank & virtually indestructible, yet manages to look right; in case you're wondering how this sounds, I have to say I was very cynical... until I saw this little clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WU1x_4yFD4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WU1x_4yFD4
OK - Rudess is faffing around a bit & not playing it as you would play an original, but the sounds are right on!
All I need to do now is convince Vicky that I can justify spending 1,900.00 on a toy...

It's not so a sacrilege to me but I just prefer my master keyboard + M-Tron vsti than that!

Apparenlty Manikin Electronic uses the exact same digital files that the M-tron does...from Tron Guru Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock... In other words, just get the M-tron software ...it's far less expensive ! ! !

...no matter how much they cost

Tell me about it... I've been trying to buy a humble midi controler keyboard, but Mercedes is indestructible and always turns into an ogre whenever I mention it. True, we have a lot of things to think about first, like the furniture we need, the house and everything on that line... but I need a synth

Ouch!! It's even more not interesting for me then :) anyway, I wonder, apart from the real Mellotron of course, which thing will sound better than the M-Tron...

Good one...
All things considered, I guess personal body parts ARE more important than keyboards
Besides, getting a real Mellotron would support your British economy rather than the German's.

Fantastic!!! A beautiful Snow White M400
Congratulations...
I just get goose bumps playing GForce's M-Tron through a M-Audio Keystation 49 controller, so I can only imagine what it can feel to play the real thing!
(Can't see the point of the expensive hardware digital Mellotron, though...)
All the best, J.-

There's no doubt the Memotron is extremely expensive, but it has been built specifically to withstand the rigours of touring, something the originals never were, unfortunately - they were designed to be specifically studio based & therefore frequently fell apart or failed whilst on tour.

Kinda off-topic and I hope I don't get expelled from the forum for this terrible taste question, but only a true 'tron aficionado can answer it:
Is that a Mellotron riff driving the new Madonna/Timberlake single "4 minutes to Save the World"???
(Sorry...)
