Devil's Interval is a very interesting Psy/Metal band that is really quite good Thumbs%20Up

Link:
http://www.myspace.com/devilsinterval - www.myspace.com/devilsinterval

From: Heraklion, Crete
Genre:  Prog-Psy Metal (could be considered Heavy, Eclectic, and Psychedelic here on PA)

Members:
Dimitris Skourtis (a.k.a. Papias) - Vocals .:.
Zografakis Manolis (a.k.a. Trygos) - Guitars .:.
Kanitsakis Stelios - Keyboards .:.
Anastopoulos Andreas (a.k.a. A.J.Anasto.) - Bass .:.
Mavrakis Panagiotis - Drums .:.

Bio:

The band started as a trio in May 2004 (with members Manolis, Andreas and Panagiotis) and after some twists of the second melodist chair, Stelios came to stay. Then Dimitris joined the band.  As a quintet, the band wrote some lyrics and gave a few shows.  At this time, the band has finished its first Demo and is working on new stuff.

My comments:
They have a very nice blend of cool keyboard textures and metal influenced riffs.  It's a good listen for people who like Heavy Prog (and Prog Metal), Eclectic, and Psychedelic.  Check out the two part song Insanity, it shows of many of their influences and has an awesome Part 2, which has a nice and laid back Latin section, which then grows into a full on metal riff (that keeps its groove).

My full review of the demo can be found here:

It's not the best of reviews (at least in my mind) but I hopefully get my point across.

They have a demo out as well that might be worth getting. We're working on inviting them to this forum as well.

Well, this is definitely not the 'standard' prog metal cup of tea.

* ducks to avoid PMT ninja weapons being thrown, then resumes *

Heavy or Eclectic come closer - there are metal riffs in here, and metal style vocals, but there's more to it. The mix of keyboards, guitar and certainly the melodies make this a pleasant listen - even if it's not something I would play everyday.

Ya, I'd totally agree.  Eclectic really fits it well, although really the labeling doesn't matter all too much.  It's just very good music Thumbs%20Up

I just got the full demo (thanks Manos for taking the time to send it to me).  I'll come back with more when I'm done listening.

Yeah, I don't know if prog metal would fit just because there's a lot more than metal here, so I'd agree that eclectic would be best. Labels aside, it's good music, definitely not the standard prog metal. I like the fusion of the metal riffs and the more psychedelic keyboard textures. I also like the juxtaposition of the metal riffs and the more laid back sections, so it's something I can listen to even if I don't feel like listening to metal.

good band   ..I'd tend to agree ProgMetal is not quite the best place for them, so if PMT don't take them HeavyProg will    ..I don't think they're really Eclectic at all

The metal genre isn't a genre I apreciate but even though I took some min to listen up... You can totally listen the metal roots from the riffs and vocals, but it has some interesting interpolation of guitar and keyboards.
Not being a collab or admin I can't really give an opinion to which sub-genre. Not knowing the prog metal sub I couldn't say if it is that, even though I think it is. Heavy Prog?? Maybe...

After listening through the album in it's entirety, I do feel as though they would best fit into either Prog Metal or Heavy Prog.  The reasoning behind Eclectic is because there are sections throughout the album that are quite different from your average metal band (most notably the Latin middle half of "Insanity Part II"), but the music remains strongly rooted into Metal, in a progressive way.

Also, I do think that we should move this thread into the suggest new bands section.  The although a "demo" doesn't really count as an official album, I would argue that "The Fine Line Between" is a complete album more-so than it is a demo.  I'll discuss this with Angelo and see what he thinks about it.

well if there's no proper CD, that's not really kosher for addition  ..yes, speak to Angelo or Dean about it-- as I said, I would add them to Heavy if they're green-lighted

EDIT;  of course the PMT are welcome to check this band for a ProgMetal category

Well since the band calls the release a demo, it is fair to treat it as such, although I must admit it is quite a good listen.  My favorite song remains "Insanity", especially the jazzy section in Part II.  I guess I'll mention the issue to Angelo though just in case...

do they have any plans on releasing anything in the way of an e.p. or full length?

I think with the quality of that demo then whenever they do have an album or EP it will be very good and we should definitely move for their inclusion if we can find the most suitable sub genre.

Wow.  I don't even know if I can list all the things this music reminds me of at once.  Has anyone ever heard a band called The Tea Party?  To me, Devil's Interval sounds like The Tea Party + Metallica but 'proggicized' and with a ton of other, constantly varying influences.

Just some highlights:
The change at about 4:00 in 'New Millenium Babylon' was awesome.  Then how it builds up from there is also awesome.
Insanity - at some point while I was listening to this, my brain decided this song is what 'Endless Dream' on Yes' album Talk should have been.  That is a compliment, as Yes is tied with Opeth for my favorite band.
The vocals across all of these samples are simply superb.  I love it when a singer varies their style rather than singing the same way throughout an entire song, or even an entire album.  There's something extremely refreshing about these vocals, especially since so many prog bands' vocalists sing exactly the same way (I'm talking about operatic male vocals in particular - while I like them sometimes, I find them extremely tiresome when they are absolutely everywhere, and usually it sounds fake to me, like the person is forcing his voice to vibrate).  Anyway, all that long-winded comment should really be is: Good Vocals! Me Like!
Narrow - love it.  It's rare for me to hear a song that blends aspects of so many different styles that I enjoy.   Parts of this even remind me of a band that I liked a lot called Showcase that I think disappeared after putting out an album on mp3.com.
I enjoyed the funky feel of 'Death Kiss'.  I enjoyed it the least of all the songs you have up, but I still thought it was good.  Definitely a fun song.

Great music!
