During the Byron era, do you think that Uriah Heep used harmonies too much? Not enough? Just something that interests me, since I've generally found that from *most* of the tracks on Look At Yourself or Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble, those with harmonies as the main vocal rather than occasional additions miserably fail to get me, compared to Byron's amazing voice. I'm not a great Heep expert, but that's just my opinion, while they seem to be praised for their harmonies here. |

I think these ''harmonies'' are integral part of the HEEP sound; that's what makes UH great, that and the fantastic voice of the sadly late Mr Byron;
After its departure, Uriah Heep was no longer the same, even if Firefly has its moments.
Byron was hardly the composer of the band, but that's him that made this band great.

I like the harmonies in the Lawton period too and I'm learning day by day to appreciate this Uriah Heep. But Byron Era was THE Uriah Heep. ------------- Bach, Ma, Bros, Déia, Dante. |

to be honest.... their vocal harmonies never really stood out to me (ie... hit me). Probably due for a round of listening to their albums. Don't make it out of the shelves that often.

| I love the Byron days of Heep. No other era will compare to it. Lawton was a decent vocalist (Sorry, but I think they only had a few good songs with him). I don't think Heep harmonized as much during this period. And with Barnie Shaw fronting now, they harmonize even less. Don't get me wrong. Bernie has a great voice. And have several very good albums with him singing. But it's just not great without David front and center stage. R.I.P. David. You are sorely missed. |
