Here are some of my favourite PM albums,
(I didn´t include albums like SFAM, or Operation Mindcrime because they would have run off with the most votes)
So, which would you say is the best?

Promised Land - 1/2 - a very good album with some weak songs.... the proggiest from the Ryche
Savatage - haven'ty heard
Mind over body - - weak POS-rip off with no coherence.... lots of potential but not there yet
Temple of Shadows - 1/2 - very good power metal album with some prog elements, it dies halfway through, though....

Systematic Chaos... review to be coming in the weeks ahead...
haven't heard any of those other albums.. but I was able to sit through SC and actually found some of it interesting. Enough for a vote from me. DT deserves just a bit of love from me anyway...

Mabool! Fantastic album.

I agree with the praising, but the I'd just like to say that "Hebrew elements" isn't exactly an accurate term.
There's some Jewish prayers inside (some passages in Hebrew, some in Aramaic), some Yemenite chanting, some Arabian influences in the sound.
Hebrew is their language (meaning the Israeli's) but as such there is no Hebrew identity (although some Historians, philosophers and other people in Israel will say otherwise but those are usually frowned upon in the general Israeli public). Which reminds me of how many times since I arrived to the US, people have asked me if I speak Israeli or Jewish...
Anyway, a fantastic album! Looking forward to their follow up.

I think you'll like it, though. Especially after seeing your conversion of late. There's a big variety of sounds in this album; influences/sounds from the middle east, from Muslim and Jewish religious tunes, citing from the bible (old testament), a nice story line that album is built around, cool art work; the last four tracks which are connected in themselves are a good reason to get this. But the opening song is fabulous as well.
There's growling on the album (as well as clear vocals and female chants) so just so you know.

Mabool is the name of the album. The band is Orphaned Land. You can read my description above and read the reviews in the album page here in PA.
If you're not into metal (Death metal and extreme) then I wouldn't bother or at least start with their previous (even though I do recommend them to metal heads). Go with Mabool. If you like it, try El Nora Alila and then Sahara.

No votes for Temple Of Shadows ):?, it's one of the best prog/power metal albums and even from the whole metal scene, also Mabool it's another f**kin' masterpiece, IMO Orphaned Land is one of the most promising modern Prog Metal bands out there, I just can't wait for their new album to come out(that will be produced by Steven Wilson).

Make sure to get the 2 CD Set of Mabool, the 2nd CD is a live acoustic set which is excellent.
I also love the guitar solo on "The Flood" where he really bends the strings, very emotional playing for a Prog Metal band.

it does have emotion in spades.. which I like. Thanks Greg.... and thanks for the heads up on the acoustic CD. I'll look for that when ordering.

That acoustic set is excellent!! My wife and I used to play it a lot in the car back in Israel. She used to listen to it constantly. She also likes the album itself, of course.

Glad you are liking it Micky.
As far as whoever said where to go after Mabool...I would recommend just waiting for the new album, it should be fairly interesting on how they are going to follow it up.
Theres a thread about it with quite the bit of info somewhere.

Dude.
Anyone who votes DT on this thread has to have not heard Mabool,
because that's just one of the greatest metal albums I've ever layed
ears upon. It's just incredible in terms of emotion, structure,
storyline, and overall musical execution. I plan on reviewing it one
day when I have time... I'm glad you enjoy it Micky!
