1. Opeth (I'm getting an overwhelming feeling about this one, I'm buying into this one regardless of what I hear or read)

2. Meshuggah (They have been getting some more attention as of late, I'm sure they will come out with one of their best).

3. Kayo Dot (They have suceeded in impressing me everytime. Why should I doubt this one either?)

4. Ayreon (Based on the samples I have heard)

5. Nevermore (Prog or non-prog..whatever, I consider them more prog then a lot of PM bands on here, but whatever. This is another band that always impresses me. They just have tough contenders on this list).

I guess you could always come back to this list and see if your predictions were true.

I might completely bite it with all my money on Opeth.

jajaja I'm a Metallica fanboy, and I actually think St. Anger isn't bad at all, it has some pretty rocking moments. And, well, Metallica has never released anything bad.

I know (and heard of) a lot of metaleers which are waiting for their new album. I mean, it's Metallica, man, they're great musicians and maybe the biggest classic metal band out there! Clap

SIGUR ROS

OPETH

THE MARS VOLTA

YNDI HALDA

GRAYCEON

Oh no, VDGG will be releasing a new one next year as well? I kinda liked the idea of Present, a last reunion album with all the original members, of almost the same quality as the old and classic stuff, like the ultimate reunion by a classic band. It's like, whatever they do now, regardless of quality, will be slightly marked by the absence of David Jackson.
Still, they might have it in them... we'll just have to see.

Opeth
The Mars Volta
Ayreon
VDGG

And we must be due new ones from Pure Reason Revolution and Echolyn. Spock's Beard usually manage one every two years so that would be welcome.

Genghis Tron - "Board Up The House" - I'm loving the stuff they've put on myspace from this album.

And I'm sure I'll like the new Opeth.

And someone mentioned a new Sleepytime Gorilla Museum album... I wasn't aware of that one, but am definitely excited about it now...

1. Kayo Dot - The only band that I have complete faith in these days. This one's practically a done deal for top '08 album.

2. The Mars Volta - They've progressed quite a bit even from France the Mute, so this will be exciting.

3. A Silver Mt. Zion - One of my top post-rock bands, this will be good.

4. Anathema - It seems like it's been forever since their last album, I can't wait until the wait is over.

5. Broken Social Scene (not prog) - Please?

I really disagree with you. After the Black album all Metallica has done was getting worst and worst and letting more and more fans down. At fiest I didn´t believe it either... but St Anger (and the cancelation of their Southamerican tour) confirmed that Metallica ain´t what it used to beCry

if PT puts out an album of studio outakes consisting of Steven Wilson talking about the weather, or about the situation in Iraq, or even if he hums the latest prog gems that come into his head.  You can pencil that in on the top of your 2008 list.

If not... watch out for the new Beardfish album.  Think she is going to be a great one.  Let's hope.

Now, now, if that were true, Blackfield II would have placed 2nd instead of in a 17 way tie for 61st, and his ambient albums get very little discussion here.  (BCVSMG and the Continuum albums).

My hope is that Ayreon's new album is as magnificent as some of the previous albums.  Also, looking forward to the new unknowns to make their way in to our common vocabulary.

P.S. You said you didn't place your votes Micky.  And as my dad used to say to me, you have to earn the right to complain by voting.  If you didn't vote you have no right to complain.  Alas, as the great Neil Peart once said "If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice".

You actually took me seriously?

Unfortunately, there are quite a few here who would actually be serious if they posted it.  The PT fanboy crowd of today is becoming the DT fanboy crowd of old, it appears.

Not seriously seriously, but yes, I took you seriously. I realize that your comment was similar to Micky's and said in jest/disgust.  In my defense, I voted for my top 5 albums in Logan's non-collab poll and Porcupine Tree was nowhere to be found, not that most would agree with my top 5.  The best part of FOABP is a certain guitar solo by a certain member of my favorite band, otherwise, I think it is good but not great.

You always say RIO freaks, plural, but I seem to be the only one who chills with the trolls and hyenas.  It's more the Magma freaks (myself included) that are making a big impact.

If not... watch out for the new Beardfish album.  Think she is going to be a great one.  Let's hope.
oh boy, I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad (sort of like the O'Reilly Factor).  Maybe it wouldn't hit number one, but TOP 5 for sure, as long as he mentions how today's youth are spoiled and ignorant.

Seconded on the next Beardfish album...but I thought they came up with a great one in 2007, and it came in at a ridiculous 78th place!! in the collab poll.
