A record company approaches you and says that they want to make a Best of Yes 2-disc album, but they don't know what songs should be on it, so they leave that up to you.  What's your album look like?

2 The Revealing Science of God (Tales From Topographic Oceans)
3 Roundabout (Fragile)
4 Sound Chaser (Relayer)

2 Going For The One (Going For The One)
3 Close to the Edge (Close to the Edge)
4 Awaken (Going For The One)
5 Starship Trooper (The Yes Album)

Ok, I'm taking this post pretty seriously because I'm bored and have nothing to do.

Anyhow I went through the Yes discography and picked two songs from every album.  And then I started cutting to get the playing time down to 160 minutes (the length of two CD's.)  Anyhow, here is what I came up with.

A Time and a Word -- A Time and a Word
Starship Trooper -- The Yes Album
I've Seen All Good People -- The Yes Album
Roundabout -- Fragile
Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)  -- Fragile
And You And I -- Close To The Edge
Ritual -- Tales From Topographic Oceans
The Gates Of Delirium -- Relayer
Turn Of The Century -- Going For The One
Awaken -- Going For The One
Changes -- 90125
I'm Running -- Big Generator
Lift Me Up -- Union
Homeworld -- The Ladder
Footprints -- Keys to Ascension II
In The Presence Of -- Magnification

You guys do know that Yes produced some great music after Going for the One, don't you?

I tried my best to fit Machine Messiah in there, but I just couldn't.

I might just tell them to re-issue Yessongs.

Though it would be nice to fit Revealing Science of God in there (maybe in place of Perpetuel Change or the Howe/Wakeman solo spots).

I'd tell them to release their debut and Fragile as a 2 CD set.

Their debut? Confused

While interesting, it is rather raw, and I don't know that many people would know that album very well.  You'd be fired immediately, when it failed to sell any copies.  LOL

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Pffft. I'd write a booklet, and everyone reading it would be convinced I was right, and then they would tell all their friends to buy the set.

Pah!

Does the world need another 2CD Yes anthology? Isn't 15 enough? Have Wall-Mart shifted the last one yet or are they still giving it away with Coco Pops? How many copies of the same recording of You And I does anyone actually need?

Even if you made a version of Yessongs from all the studio recordings, the original live version would still be better.

My choice: The first two CDs from Yesyears, but lose the dire America, I'll call this anthology Yescashin.

Disk 1: (72:50)
1. Something's Coming (7:06)
2. Survival (6:18)
3. Every Little Thing (5:41)
4. Then (4:18)
5. Everydays (4:08)
6. Sweet Dreams (3:49)
7. No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed (4:48)
8. Time and a Word (4:31)
9. Starship Trooper (9:26)
10. Yours is no Disgrace (9:40)
11. I've Seen All Good People (6:53)
12. Long Distance Runaround (3:33)
13. The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus) (2:35)

Disk 2: (72:43)
1. Roundabout (8:31)
2. Heart of the Sunrise (10:31)
3. Soon (edit) (4:06)
4. Close to the Edge (18:34)
5. Ritual (21:33)
6. Sound Chaser (9:23)

Which is pretty close to Yesstory without the Going For The One tracks isn't it?

Meh... where's the Virge when you need him? Disapprove

It would as a live set.  If you replaced New State of Mind with either A Venture or Looking Around, it'd make a great concert.
