Today I bought what I thought was either a low budget vinyl reissue or a live version of "Thick as a Brick." It was printed in 1985 in West Germany and the catalog number is PLP8/24020. There's a live picture of Ian on the cover and the tracklisting on the back is:
Side A 1. Thick As A Brick (1. Version) Side B 1. Thick As A Brick (2. Version)
The thing is, they are neither different versions of the song nor parts 1&2 of the original. Side 1 ends with "No one to help you get up steam / and the whirlpool turns you `way off-beam", and side 2 ends with the instrumental section that follows the verse "You put your bet on number one and it comes up every time. [--] writing up their memoirs for a paper-back edition of the Boy Scout Manual." So this is really just Part 1 of the song split from the middle.
What I'd like to know is was Thick as a Brick Part 1 originally released as a single or an EP, which would mean the one I have is a reissue?

^ That's not it, but thanks for the link. I found this Italian release that only has side 1 of the original, just like the one I have. The cover is different though.

The cover is different though.
