Topic: Kiss of death
Posted By: mrgd
Subject: Kiss of death
Date Posted: June 13 2007 at 19:40
I'm starting to get some kind of complex. A high percentage of my limited posts on various threads on this site seem to be the final word , with so many such threads tailing off down the list of oblivion following an mrgd post. Perhaps only I and the thread author who may check from time to time to see what's happening on their thread would pick this up.

I've tried knowledge ,humour, bland opinion, strident opinion, worthy criticism, unworthy criticism, nonsense, out and out provocation, hints of disrespect, praise, measured debate, mild haranguing, bigotry, condescension, unmitigated fawning, information and , God forbid, fact, to mention but a few.

All this without arguably not one single breach of the protocols. But, on the whole, so often these pearls of wisdom end up being all there is?

So has anyone got any suggestions for me ? What posting tactics should I employ?

Sure, I can think of some obvious one's , like 'don't be last', or even the most potentially hurtful response , ie. no response at all . That would mean not only would my posts be the 'kiss of death', so would my thread subject......... Oh, you guys can be so cruel!!!! Don't do it to me, please, not again.........

Do me a favor: Whenever you see a Dream Theater poll, immediately post your opinion on that thread.  Regardless of whether you actually care (not that anybody actually does anyway....).

TO RILEYDOG22: Re DT.
I have overwhelming ethical considerations when using the K.O.D. signature as a weapon of intentional mass termination, but when considering the merits of your proposal, suffice it to say, not even I may be troubled by the execution thereof.

[In other words, great idea mate]!!

P.S. [and not K.O.D.] I'm sure we can think of a few others.

It could also be applied to those "Hackett or Howe" polls that shoot up every three days or so, and any thread refering to the top 100 albums (e.g. "Should Selling England be number one or should Close to the Edge have the spot?").  You could be as valuable for closing superfluous threads as the admin team!*

*Note to the admins: Keep up the good work!

Yeah, and all the 'the best' of this or that or at this or that, the Genesis era polls and any involving that ol' geezer Phil and, of course, the 'A Passion Play' v. any other Tull album polls gives us a real start.

And just in case admins are sussing it out, we won't have to be as vulgar as to use the actual K.O.D. acronym[although it should be produced when appropriate], I can just post up one of my famous non- controversial, humourless, otiose or benign offerings and the jobs done. It'll just bore the sh*t out of them.

Just have a look at poor old Progbaby's Favourite Fruupp album poll and Eerichtho's Favourite Prog keyboardists poll, I friggin' well dispatched them in no time at all.........and then there's Kurpij's Best Prog rock bass player poll and Natural Science's Corea/Fleck observations, I bored the crap out of everyone with them and they're still nailed to the floor. Just point me in the right direction and they're gone man!!!!

People know how to respond to bland me toos and obvious opinions - they usually just ignore them and carry on as if they had the first post, whereas if you weave a little more subtlety and wit into your posts, people are often left at a loss. Think of it this way: thanks to their admiration of your peculiar posting style, you can take the breath of so many people away, right out of their fingers!

MMMMMMWWWWAAAAAAHH........

Wow, that wasn't bad........      ...and I'm a happily married man...........woops

'The Hare Who Lost His Spectacles' is a witty and clever
theatrically influenced interlude which breaks the mood and lightens the demands the piece, in it's entirety, places on the listener, in it's all embracing challenge to the bounds of progressive music of the time which, if it were not for this fullsome work, was in danger of becoming artistically ho- hum.

[ Now, that ought to do it. No one's going to want to go near this.....and can you blame them. You bloody beauty, the KOD lives and I can be saved from further embarrasment]! ! !

Ha! I see what you did there, trying to derail this thread by actually discussing something related to music. You'll never catch us out wih your highfalutin ways and your clever clever words, there will always be some one somewhere on this forum who would be prepared to argue the diametric opposite of whatever statement you chose to make and thus defibulate the heart of this dying thread.

I for one, for example, could categorically state that Ian Anderson wouldn't recognise the rythmic purity of the iambic pentameter if it bit him on the nose, so constructed this meandering dolop of miasmaic nonsense purely for the benefit of self-gratification and the love of his own voice.

But of course, I wouldn't say any such thing because that would be an illicit provocation tantamount to deliberate taunting for the purpose of soliciting a counter-response incitement. Wink

And anyway - hare had a spare pair - which renderes the whole piece both superfluous and redundant both metaphysically and logically.

Guilty of 'counter response incitements'........moi?

I'm only trying to let this thread terminally defribulate itself into oblivion, in peace. So something about Genesis selling out, Hackett v. Howe should do it, since the APP Tull and 'hare' thing did n't work.

Hang on a sec.........a disclaimer! That'll do it , it always does . Why didn't I think of it before and put everyone out of their misery sooner. It's the epitome of redundant rubbish. Who responds to what's written on the back of their dry cleaning ticket, their undercover car park or ferry ticket . Absolutely no-one, so here goes.........]

[ Yes.... a   few 'saids', 'aforementioneds', 'whatsoevers' and the masterstroke, a proviso - this is absolutely mind numbing stuff, better than those Hackett v. Howe polls -
R.I.P, K.O.D. , this time for sure].

You know, I respect what you're doing here. It takes guts to say "hey, I'm don't get why my posts always end threads, and I refuse to let it turn me off to this website, what can I do to reverse this trend" (I think I've paraphrased it accurately). I for one will always attempt to make sure your threads don't become the final word on any post. Granted I may miss a few, but you can rest assured I'm there, ready to unburden you of that experience.  Smile

I know how to end this thread. Genesis' downfall can be contributed to the ongoing failure of the war in Iraq. Gabriel, foreseeing the wanton destruction, quit the band in order to enjoy the last few decades with his family. He later recounted his vision to Steve Hackett. Also, Bush says that synthesizers give terrorists easy access to inferior copies of weapons.

I believe the prog-related forum should be removed because it will lead to more and more related discussions until we start typing about ANYTHING that pops into our heads.

That's easy for you to say, but what about the poor little kittens?

Hadn't thought of that had you?

The Theatre of Feline Dreams.

Acting upon that thought, I have just put this thread into a sugar bag with a brick, tied off the top with rope and thrown it into the Ross River.

Why? I remind you of the thread title . I just want to end it all .......now...........MEEOOWW.

It's just in: Gabriel-era Genesis gives you cancer, just like oxygen, aspartame and cattle.
