side two does have more variety, it seems, although the first side is more fun...honestly, though, the entire song(part 1 and 2) is at least 30 minutes longer than it needs to be.

I like both, but I think Side 1 is more cohesive and works better as a song.

I voted for Side One, but I love them both! I really like the finale of Side Two, but the first side edges it out ever so slightly.

Side two seems a little incohesive to me, almost as if they just slapped a few riffs together.

Listen to any side first (not necessarily the first one) and it will get your vote. Both are equally terrific!!! I can't vote then....

I find Side Two boring and, as many pointed out, not nearly as cohesive as the first. My vote goes to Side One then!

The choice is not very easy. I think I prefer the second

Probably the first side, but for one to listen to Thick As A Brick one must listen to both sides.

True, although for a bunch of hastily slapped together riffs it's still pretty f***ing amazing.

Side 1 is just about flawless though.

Never mind the choice of both, what about the choice of neither? I really don't like this album! Repetitive, cliched, boring...

It's a much better piece than relayer. Constant musical changes, great song writing, great vocals, great musicianship, great sound. The first side is constantly changing and amazing, the second side has some awesome moments and revisits a couple of moments from side 1 briefly. 9.5/10 rating for this album and as close to perfect you will ever find. As for Relayer:

Gates-great first 5 minutes, next 10 minutes filler
Soundchaser-great first 5 minutes, annoying repetition afterwards
To be over-nice tune

Not the warmest recording I know of either

I'm going to pretend you didn't say that. Ouch

Thick as a Brick is an album experience, to be honest, although I suppose I'll spring for Side 1.

Side 1 but if side 2 would have been on side 1 I would have probably picked that, only listened to both sides without stopping 3 times and all the other times I usually stop it almost at the end of side 1 so I am much more familiar with that side. I should just listen to the second side a couple of times to really listen to it.

1) That's like saying side one essentially. But with a less inventive bass player.

2) The Madison Square Gardens version was better anyways...

That sounds...really awesome when you put it like that actually.

Side one. Side two is good too, but all that noisy nonsense at the beginning feels like filler to me.

I like the first half of side two after that I start to drop off a bit

Well I like the whole thing myself. It was and is one continuous piece of music. The technology of the time required they split it up into two halves.

This is one the greatest 5 minutes of prog rock history and it is from side 2

Sorry, I was a bit harsh before. I don't mind the album that much, it's just I feel it's 10 minutes of superb music which is then repeated with variations for a little too long

The whole of side 1 sounds like 20 minutes of superb music. But I think the best 5 minutes of prog history is on side 2. The edit below
