Subject: How loud do you listen to Music?

I wanted to know how loud people like to listen to their music.  Answer the poll, and maybe write a little bit about how loud you listen to it and why.

I personally listen to my music pretty loud, but I wish to be in the audio engineering business when I grow up so I try to keep my ears in good condition.  I've never blown a speaker, but I might be getting close with these old ones of mine.  I like to listen to it loud cause I can feel it more, and I can hear all of the more subtle parts in it.

On my mp3 payer, usually the lowest possible level is good because I have sensitive earbuds that really block outside sound. On my computer speakers, generally low to mid-level.

What's music?

Anyway, my vote's for other: earphones. I don't like headphones, really. When using the speakers, I keep it down - and I like others to do the same.

Most of the time with headphones, and not very loud.

I play music at a mid to low volume level. The only time I play it loud is when I am walking to school and the traffic noise is horrible....

What ? I can't hear you ! I have my head stuck between two speakers !
Can you sign language ? Hey , someone answer that ringing phone !
Why doesn't the treble work on my stereo ? What ? Wink

Somewhere in the middle, mostly. To keep my hearing and my speakers working.

when no one is around as loud as possible without hurting my ears or speakers, with others there its quiet to moderate

and of course intense music I like quiet, mellow music I like loud

I listen to it pretty loud, from what people say to me. This has a bad side to my delicate musician hearing, but I can't stop having "this small stubbornness".

When I'm alone and the music's on speaker (or on Winamp) it's moderately loud, enough to please me. Cool

And when I use headphones, I keep an equally powerful volume.

Finally, when I don't listen to music, even when no music sound (thought that's clearly impossible, taking everything in account) isn't made, I constantly have music in my mind, that's a musician's deluxe I presume, and it too [the music in my mind] is loud. LOL

So...loud enough! Approve

Loud but not extremely loud since I've noticed a very slight ringing in my ears.

Hurrah, on one side of my house, there's a shop, and on the other side there's a church, so I have nothing to do with neighbours.

And yet, I don't put the music too loud. In the middle at maximum. To protect my ears, because I lost some of my hearing ability already because of an overdose of sound. Cry  Don't want to end up hard hearing before I'm old.

But when the music's really happening, up goes the volume button Wink

Loud, but I'd prefer to keep my hearing (and speakers)

With headphones, probably louder than I should. With my speakers, moderately loud when others are around, louder when I'm alone, and loudest in the car with the windws down, mostly with some kind of rock or metal playing.

Too loud makes my head hurt and the house shake, my speakers are pretty powerful and a reasonably low volume is perfectly sufficient.

I have extremely acute hearing, so I keep it low, and half the time people don't even know I'm listening - without headphones

I never noticed how loud my music was, I always thought it was medium. But then my friends told me that it was killing their ears. (note that the friends were hardend metal heads.) I guess that I just like to be able to hear the whole song and not just the parts mixed to the front.

As loud as the speakers can handle. Rock is meant to be loud and proud. If you are in my car and think my music is too loud, tough sh*t.

I just have it so it's loud enough to hear everything clearly, on my mp3 player and my computer/CD player.

Somewhere in the middle

In the car - stupidly loud, I literally shredded a set of speakers in my old VW, the replacements were so powerful the magnets sucked in the door panels and I had to build a new shelf out of 12mm MDF to take the weight of the rear speakers. Admittedly since parting with the VW I've grown out of this kind of behaviour: a family of badgers are now living in my old sub and I use the amp for cooking fajitas.

At home - if no one is in the house and the neighbpurs are out - very loud; if the neighbours are in but their TV's on - quite loud. Otherwise just loud, unless it's after 11pm then quite very quiet or headphones.

On Headphones - not very loud at all - I wouldn't want to damage my hearing.

Headphones and ear-bud are the worse thing for permanent hearing damage next to standing by PA stack at a Who concert.

On a serious note - If you play in a band - get some professionally fitted earplugs.

Interesting thead! I listen to my music loudly, almost all the time with the audio system (not in the PC), and also, most of the time, with my headphones, just to not bother my family, when they're home...

BUT, most of people confusese two things: listening to music loud on speakers doesn't damage your ears (unless it's TOOOO loud, like a concert, but I guess most of us don't reach that level LOL), you can remotely damage your ears with very loud headphones (I was told so).

Headphones will damage your hearing if you have them too loud for too long. All explained here: http://www.abelard.org/hear/hear.htm - http://www.abelard.org/hear/hear.htm

Interesting webpage! Clap
Spent some time reading it and all the info there's very helpful, everyone should read it.
For me, during the school days, I often don't listen to more than one CD per day, because I feel my ears tired after a journey of traffic, loud voices, etc etc
Also, personally, I use earplugs which reduce like 25 db, during loud rehearsals with my band and it really works, and there's almost no difference, and it's kinda greater because you can hear what you're playing clearer. Big%20smile

Quite quietly, though not too quiet to hear.  With headphones (I have earmuff ones; can't deal with earbuds) I find that the lowest possible volume on my iPod is too high for certain songs.  If I am somewhere noisier, I will never turn the volume up higher than a third of the way; if this isn't enough, the environment is just too loud and I won't listen to music until I'm in a quieter place.  And even at a third of the way I often find this gives me headaches; I've got quite sensitive ears, it seems.

Without headphones, well, I don't have anything louder than my awful computer speakers at the moment, so I can't play anything loud even if I wanted to!  I wouldn't, though.  I don't find I get any more out of music when it's loud; if anything, my appreciation is lessened, because I have to concentrate a bit on the music when it's not being blasted at me--and because I am not going to have good feelings about a song if it is making my head hurt!

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

I really care for my hearing so i don't listen very loud. When i was teenager i was crazy about loud hi-fi speaker systems. Later on i switched mostly to headphones because i like the intimate rich detailed sound.
