Topic: The Virginity Poll
Posted By: Prog-jester
Subject: The Virginity Poll
Date Posted: May 10 2007 at 10:04
Just thinking about a buddy of mine, who lost his virginity around 15 - his girl became pregnant, now they have a baby and he cries that this is not the way of life he'd choose (he's younger than me actually).

The poll is kinda anonymous, you're not forced to worn everything inside out.

Me - 18

I'm proud to say that it hasn't happened yet, God forbid seeing as how I'm only 14. I personally find any teenage year as too young, but that is just my opinion.

Frankly, I don't remember at all. I said 18, could have been 17, but I'm very bad at counting back summers. I remember how and why and where it happened, but 2 years, it feels like I was a virgin again, or would if I didn't have someone to make that right

That's precisely why I never wanted to have a daughter. I know exactly how I was.

But, it still didn't happen until I was 17 (not to imply that it's not still young). Now, after almost five years of celibacy, when (and if) it happens again, it will probably be a lot like the first time.

Last time was 4 years for me. I was ok with it, since I didn't knew someone of my interest at the time. Pluas, the world was a very peaceful place during that period.

I've seen that movie so many times my friends and I take roles and we say the lines of the specific characters rather than quote every character. It's like acting in the movie without actually having to do anything.LOL

There, there, Brian, it'll happen for you. You just need to apply yourself out there.Tongue

Not yet.

I just don't have the motivation horn dogs like Tony did way back when. Wink I also think I'm not stable enough to do that yet. I ended a relationship not too long ago without even moving into much of a physical stage because I want to be alone for now. Maybe when I get a job and move to college, but not now.I'm happy, though. Smile

I wouldn't say I WANT to wait until marriage, but if that turns out to be the case it wouldn't bother me.
However, I do think it should be with someone you care about. Not like, someone you love and want to spend your life with, but you should at least care for them, (and vice versa). From what I've seen, it dosn't seem worth it to get someone just to have sex with. IMO of course...

As an Existentialist, I'm afraid that following your advice may lead "bad faith" or some other variety of unauthentic living for just about every male in the world.

So, it is my duty (again as an Existentialist) to encourage everyone to have as much sex as justifies their need for sexuality and no more.

had a couple chances but I'm not very attracted to intoxicated girls and I seem to have trouble with actual relationships so I'm a virgin at 21.
Does it bother me, well I can't say not entirely since I have a lot of 16-17 year old friends that are far from being virgins and they act like I'm a total loser for still being one.
I think I'm more interested in women intellectual/conversationally than physically though, if I get into a relationship I wouldn't want it to be for sexual reasons, but someone who can carry a good conversation is much more appealing.

Nothing yet at 16, doesn't matter much to me now

As young as I am, it doesn't seem as bad, but thinking about it from the parents perspective, I'd wanna pull a gun on anybody that touched any kid of mine.  I teach martial arts to little kids and sometimes I get scarred by the words they already know and use

I think with the general promiscuity and the novelty of the birth control pill (still less than a decade in 69), and no-one using preservatives, mostly everybody in the sexual revolution caught tyhe clap at one point or another.

As to you knowing about it, you probably read his diary notes published all over the place.

I've always thought that the idea of "waiting until married" can be some sort of a problem. Low performance, pain maybe. Though I must admit it must be exciting somehow.

I think Hughes, you mean 'preventatives', unless you know of a different use for monosodium glutamate

Didn't happen yet, and won't for awhile. Marriage is a ways away.

There are still some practicing Catholics left in this world thankfully.

I was born and raised as a Catholic but now I can't get far enough away from it. But I'll agree with Equality that I'm glad there are practicing Catholics. There are far too many people with my beliefs who use them as an excuse to have a bad moral code.

But fairly recently, I've come to my own realizations that there is nothing sacred about sex or marriage. I just turned 18 and I'm planning on losing it as soon as I can.

We are witnessing it now. Also note that in the USA, there is a serious uptightness with sex.

Well I certainly hope that isn't the case. Though based on shallow observations I've made we may already be heading down that pipe. What makes you say that?

Without a widespread belief in the sanctity of marriage(not necessarily in a religious sense) there will be a breakdown of the family unit. The family is the basic building block of society as generally noted by socialogists and historians. You'll be hard pressed to find  a society without strong family units, or similar extended units such as clans. They just don't exist.

Just because one doesn't believe in the existance of a supreme being doesn't mean one cannot have a strong, cohesive family.  I hate when religious people assume that athiests are evil people incapable of having morals/respecting their marriage/functioning in society/not destroying the world.

16 for me, I'm sorry to say.

Girls and sex were the end of my (potentially) brilliant education results. I totally lost focus on my future needs as I focussed on the dangling appendage. Take heed, young ones! There is plenty of time for sex and all its wonders when the time is right ...and this is a message I am trying to get through to my own kids.

If you feel that way about marriage don't even bother getting married then,it would be horribly unfair to your wife.

Those are just personal beliefs at the moment, very likely due to the fact I suffered a bitter rejection recently that I'm still strongly feeling the effects of. And by recently I mean over two months ago, by someone religious who I very much respected as a person. I'm not incapable of love, I just seriously believe now that there are better ways of finding it than the way I was going about it (the pathetic way that brought me to this bitter state in the first place).

Doing a lot of thinking (in this bitter state of mind) just leads me to question the value of an age old ritual that our society so adamantly continues to advocate. I'm hoping that that special someone, should I ever meet them, shares the same belief. Though if not I certainly have no problem with marriage and subsequently loving and respecting my wife, till death do us part, etc. Just wanted to clear that up.

I absolutely agree. I still like the idea of having a family, despite the religious falling out. And I seriously doubt that's the religious upbringing talking (though I could be wrong).
