Hello my fellow progheads
I have a very humble suggestion to make our site even better that has
possibly been discussed already... Just wanted to know what y'all
think about it
I was wondering how cool it would be to find in the "album page" where
we find the reviews and track listing for each album a small biography
about the album... like for example the context in which it was
produced, any special techniques used in its recording, how critics
took it at the moment, any delays it may have had, and in general any
interesting or curious information about the album (only to list some
examples of the huge possibilities keeping in mind that each album is
unique) that I, personally, would LOVE to find in some not
to say all of the albums on the archives
Since it's such a huge database, how bout making it a "wiki" style
where us registered users can contribute to these biographies by adding
or editing any informartion we may have about it, of course monitored
constantly by admins and Prog Specialists of he respective genre...
Such an extensive and complete prog album information database would make us the definitive prog rock encyclopedia on the web!
Like I said this may have already been discussed, but what do you guys think about it?

I like the idea, Acostafulano. I really do. But there are 14,471 albums in the database and not many bands are really open about giving some information or the information is really rare and hard to find...
It isn't easy, to say the least.

It's really very simple really.
Add a 'review' the artist possibility, l,ike we can add a review of an album, create a possibility to add comments and data on the bands album info can be incorporated in the album reviews, but general information can than be incorporated in 'band reviews'..

It shouldn't be THAT hard if we allow people to modify this "album
bios" as in the wikipedia, like anyone registered can do it and it
doesn't have to be like ALL of the 14000+ albums in the database at
once... of course the top 100 albums over the time would probably be
the first ones to be "biographed" by the people but hey that's a good
start in making progarchives the ultimate prog resource huh? I would
like to hear what the progarchives team thinks about it!
besides, there's no rush!

That is a cool idea, but I doubt we would be able to do it for most of the albums here. Sometimes it is difficult to find any information on the band itself, let alone a specific album.

True.Plus the idea isn't entirely feasible because of the huge amount of albums listed here. You are talking about a TON of work.

It is an interesting idea, but I am against it!
Sometimes before reviews I research it a bit to get background info to put in my review of that album.
If this was done it would mean that my review would only contain my opinion (not necessarily a bad thing) and it would not have any interesting info about the album that I like to include in my reviews (from time to time)....

Heck, I think my few reviews are already too long by half.

I like the idea, I sometimes wish there was some kind of guide to understand what was going on at thte time etc. Not really an opinion or a review rather a small historical overview about the album

You mean something like " at the time of In the court of the Crimson King's release there was no real prog scene, thus contributing to its' place in prog hearts as a great album. When you have no competition, you logically & automatically are the best at whatever you are. That explains the high rating better, I guess

http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1295 - Tangerine Dream 's discography here in PA has some notes in every album. It's an interesting read and I like the idea, but we have a lot of work adding bands as it is.
Check it out.
