Without using a poll, a very simple question: who's your favourite woman in prog - or prog related?
As you'll surely understand from the subject line, mine is KATE BUSH!
PLEASE KATE: COME TO ITALY!!!!

I have been a Kate Bush fan for over 20 years, and the release of "Aerial" was one of the best surprises of the past few years. If you are interested, you can read my reviews of Kate's albums from "NeverForEver" onwards.

I agree with you, the real new-romantic sound (of course, far, far better than Spandau Ballet and any other post-Adam-and-the-Ant freak). "Delius", "Blow away" and "Violin" are masterstrokes

I don't think I have a favourite female vocalist. There aren't that many to choose from out of the prog or prog related genres.

If I had to choose though, assuming that Fairport Convention are prog related, then I would probably go for Sandy Denny.

Renate Knaup is indeed a brilliant and intriguing vocalist!

My favourites are Kate Bush, Annie Haslam, Sarah Trondall, Marcela Bovio, the girls of Ars Nova (specially Keiko Kumagai) and of course Arlette Jecquier (Fulano and Mediabanda vocalist)... All of them women with amazing talent!!!... And soon you will have the privilege to hear the voices of Pilar and Barbara, vocalists of a chilean prog band called RU Kaiser who releases their first album on may...

Besides prog I really enjoy the work of Diamanda Galas, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey... Really good stuff...

ANNIE HASLAM( Renaissance) Simply the best female vocalist in prog.

IRENE PAPAS ( VANGELIS)  this lady is a well acclaim Greek actress and she had an album in the 70's with the master Vangelis. if  you don't have this album I highly recommend great beautiful music. Strong voice though, but extremely beautiful. check this album out
Irene Papas Odes Featuring Vangelis

ENYA this lady sings like an angel. it brings tears to my eyes.

GILLI SMITH. love her poems and her screams.

CLARE TORRY (DARK SIDE OF THE MOON)  for those that love Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon. Don't we all love her vocals part?  awesome breath taking.!!!

Who the hell`s wife listens to prog? Anyway I have alot of European stuff with female singers. Of course Amon Duul II who for some reason didn`t use Renate Kanup enoughAngry. Her best album with them was Made In Germany.  I have a few albums by a Norwegian band called Ruphus which has a  female on a couple of albums, Flying Colours and Inner Voice I believe. I`m going to dig them out and review them.  Inga Rumpf from Frumpy had a harder edge so did  Janis Joplin`s evil twin Janita Haan who was with Babe Ruth. Apparently they have a new album with the First Base lineup but I can`t find it.  Octopus from Germany had a good mellower female singer named Jennifer Hensel. How about Briget Wishart who was that Blondie sounding female vocalist they had on  a couple of albums in the early 90`s. Maybe not prog but I`ve got a few albums by avante garde vocalist/pianist Meredith Monk . Hysterical voicings for some reason she is always in the classical section.

Really REALLY great. I'm seeing her live for the first time next month, I seriously cannot wait. She's the most powerful music artist I've ever discovered, by a mile. Usually, a single word from her mouth is more expressive/emotional/passionate than anything most bands that attempt to convey emotion can achieve in their entire recorded career.

I did argue her case for her to be added to PA here - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=29448%20 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=29448  but the only reply I got to my comments was something about her damn appearance Ermm

The bass player in my old band had a Ricky 4001 / Blonde Stereo, Draaaawl / slavver, Grrr. He sold it and bought a Music Man bass because I had a Music Man Stingray MkI lead, Pre - Ernie Ball.
He must have been mad. The sound of the 4001 and the Stingray Mk1 conbined was amazing! Really, really fantastic and dare I say it...original.When he got the Musicman bass, the whole thing sounded average.

Kate Bush is mightly fine.  Also a big Tori Amos fan.  Sarah McLachlan is quite nice, though more progressive oriented on her first albums.  No one's mentioned Chloe Alper of Pure Reason Revolution.  The band pic on this site doesn't do her justice.  Check out the band's live clips on You Tube.  You'll also understand why I am nicknaming them Pure Bedhead Revolution.LOL
Sonja Kristina, Annie Haslam, Enya, Sally Oldfield, Sterolab's Letitia Sadier...
I haven't seen the Resident's Molly Harvey out of disguise, but she has a really sweet voice.

Out of a harem of high-quality vocalists, such as Annie Haslam and Kate Bush mentioned here, I'm going for Petronella Nettermalm, as the present favorite. Not the best, but I seem to find something mildly ghastly and simultaneously beautiful in her performance, probably much due to Paatos' music.

that's right.... I tried to no avail to find pics of  Anna Galliano (keyboardist) and Liliana Bodini (vocals, guitar) of Zauber.  Also from RPI we also have Silvania Ida from Apoteosi as well.  Not too many from RPI land. Zauber being the only one I've heard from the 70's that had female instrumentalists.

I would have to say Sonja Kristina, seeing as she was the woman of many a fantasy in my teenage years.

Annie Haslam is a voice, rather than a woman... she mixes emotion and tecnic so well.

But my favourite female on Prog-rock is Jane Duboc, from Brazilian Bacamarte. Actually, she's a singer of Brazilian Popular Music (which is a sophisticated genre, rather than popular!), and appeared on "Depois do Fim" only as a guest. But what a guest appearancee! Her voice is amazing, she sings with such a power!

Woman exploitation.... I can remember Clare Torry not being credited by the Pink Floyd for "The Great Gig in the Sky"
