I started out on this project to transcribe and record as many of my favourite VG tunes as I can because I grew up with a NES and the music is AWESOME, it's like the best metal but written by japanese classical composers - amazing stuff.

Anyway it's real hard to play most of the time but it's exceptionally rewarding to transcribe and play it and have a finished product. In my covers I aim to stay as true to the music of the game as possible whilst using conventional instruments so no dodgy alterations or anything like that, just pure NES composition in all it's glory. And here is the first (and only one I've recorded) so far:

Metroid - Ending

I aim to have another done by tommorow blaster master - stage one but I don't know if I'll have a bass and it's pretty tricky in parts, not as hard as the one above though, I pretty much had to learn how to sweep in order to play it.

 It sounds good! Smile

I'm 27, and have many fond memories of these tunes. I like to play two tunes from "Columns" for the Sega Genesis on my bass.LOL

I figured out Super Mario Bros.' "Underground Level" tune in its entirety. It'll take some practice to play it in time with the game.

Do you use Winamp at all?

If so, you may have already heard of the following, but it's new to everyone else Tongue

This may be of great help to you in transcribing these soundtracks.

The http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=142682&show=reviews - Not-So-Fatso plug-in for Winamp allows you to mute any and all of the 5-6 channels of audio.

I think the Japanese Castlevania 3 was one of the few games to use the sixth channel.

You can also fiddle with the properties of the tone generators a bit to make it sound different, as well as a few other options.

Click to get your http://www.zophar.net/nsf/ - Soundtracks. Almost every NES soundtrack is available at that link.

Oh the NSF plugin is great, I figured out all the parts to batman stage 1-1 a few months back and figured out and recorded all of blaster master stage 1 a few weeks ago thanks to the NSF plugin.

NES music is real inspiring stuff, especially megaman and those bitchin' harmonies.
