If Prog isn't the music of the 70-ies and their styles, Kruder and Dorfmeister are Prog of today. Their technique to mix given music to something new is a kind of progressive music. It's retro. But progressive. Is that a contradiction?

Anyway I listened to "DJ Kicks" yesterday and I feel much better today. This album is so strange and weired albeit listenable.

Any thoughts?

I know the albums, but I would never call it prog. It's ambient, minimalistic, they mix in a multitude of influences ... but it's not complex, and it lacks the artistic ambition (or in other words: they write their music for the dancefloor).

BTW: If you like K&D and prog music - check out David Holmes!

SmileThanks for the hint - Mike. I listened to it on Itunes-Store right now. But those short bits of 30 seconds aren't easily to discuss. But in my ears K&D sound more hovering, not as heavy as HOLMES. But you are right - it is the kind of basic material they use for such mixes. I will search for other records of Holmes.

BTW I'm a hard die Prog Fan of most of the 70-ies Prog Groups. I'm not as young as it might sound. Listening to "Lamb lies down ...." now - live. And I have to say the "DJ-Kicks" attract my mind in a similiar way then the classics of prog. Their music has very much "feel". I wouldn't merely dance to that.  Wink

The problem with David Holmes is that the albums are all very different. Listen to some songs on his myspace page: http://myspace.com/davidholmesdj - http://myspace.com/davidholmesdj

I'd recommend these albums to get started:

- Let's Get Killed (Song "Gritty Shaker" on the myspace page)
- David Holmes Presents: The Free Association
