I had the very great pleasure of seeing RW and his incredible band in Sydney [Aust.] on 25/1 on the southern hemisphere leg of his world tour of this show and it was nothing short of sensational. He's in Melbourne for 2 shows and Brisbane and he's off to South America and parts of South East Asia before heading off to Europe. Check out the concert dates and venues on his website.
It is difficult to find one single negative about this concert. The complete DSOTM segment which started the 2nd. half of the concert was amazing and well worth the price of admission alone altho. there was much more on the play list than that. The first half included a cross section of songs similar to those featuring on the 'In the Flesh' DVD and included 'Set Your Controls...', 'Mother', 'Shine on...','Wish you Were Here' and some from 'Animals' complete with the flying pig.It also included what RW described as a new song based on his hitch- hiking and travel experiences in the Middle East as a teenager when his car broke down and he and his companion were taken in by a Lebanese family, an experience which he said in retrospect effectively changed his life. The lyrics then developed this vitriolic attack on the USAs and UK's attitude to the middle east which was carried on in other songs which attacked the US involvement in Iraq and allowed him to make extremely pointed criticism of the worlds phanatical leaders over the years with George W. taking pride of place - very powerful and thought provoking stuff.[One wonders how it would go down with the CIA in the 'States]. The visuals and light show were also amazing. Obvious highlights for me were the powerful 'Us and Them', 'Time ' and Carole Kenyon's interpretation of the scat vocal in 'The Great Gig in the Sky'.The encore of 'Another Brick...' followed by the chilling 'Comfortably Numb', the atmosphere of which was contributed to by the extraordinary visuals were fantastic. The 15,000 odd crowd just went off. John Carin's keyboards were spot on, Andy Fairweather-Low was irrepressible, Snowy White's laid back lead guitar work was a joy and Graham Broad's powerful drumming was very solid. Unfortunately I did not catch the name of the other lead guitarist and vocalist who was also very skilled and seemlessly eased into his solo and vocal work. RW himself seemed genuinely humbled by the audience response and he established an excellent rapport with the audience, despite it's size. Anyone who has the oppotunity to see this wonderful concert that spans the best part of 3 hours and misses it has no-one else but themself to blame. Roger gave away his age to the extent that he allowed us with simple maths to work out that he is nearly 60 and so, not unlike Ian Anderson, his voice was far from pristine. He handled the lower register songs quite well considering and they either had some effect on his voice to fill out the sound on the upper register work or one of the backing vocalists sang the octave, with Roger taking the low end. It actually worked quite well and didn't detract from his performance or sound imo. Some lead vocals were taken by John Carin who sings very nicely and othes [e.g. 'Money'] were handled well by this mystery guitarist.
A good question though because if anyone wanted to find a negative, this perhaps would be it. It wasn't for me though. ------------- Looking still the same after all these years... mrgd |

Thanks for being straight forward and fair.
The voice has always been a make or break thing with me.
I remember seeing Tull in 92. The show was brilliant, great sound and venue. Ian's voice however was a disappointment.
That being said, I sounds like Roger put on a classic show. If I had the chance...

Good news, I'm going to get my tickets next week, the show in Lima is March 12, the bad news is the prices, US$ 225 VIP if bought the first week.
Probably I'll go to preferential (More or less at the level of the console) it's 140 bucks.

No I'm sorry I can't. The first half did contain a couple of additional songs I think that I was not familiar with. The rest is as I have already said. I'm not sure if the set list was printed in the program which looked like an extensive quality document. As they were Aus.$40 each, I let it go. I saw this show in Montreal last year in september. My husband and I loved it. I agree with you, it's a show to not miss. It's worthed the price.

Thanks MRGD, I got lucky, being subscribed to a newspaper I am entitled to get a ticket with 20% of discount, so I'm getting tomorrow my VIP pass for US$ 130.00, just found it when only two tickets were availlable.
It's about 35 mts of the stage, the Super VIP tickets are not so good being that the stage is going to be very high.

This show is so big with all the pyrotechnics effects, the videos on the big screen, the pig, the astronaut, and so on, that even if we were not as close as you will be seated Ivan, it did not matter. Au contraire, being seated up allowed us to appreciate the whole thing. Anyway, enjoy yourself, and don't forget to make a post here after the show. ------------- C'est la vie |

I will also post some photos being that digital cameras are allowed (As long as they are not proffesionals with zoom), If he does one and I can meet some peope, will try to get a pass for the Press Conference.
Will try to do the same for the Jethro Tull Concert the next month, maybe easier because this one will be in a smaller theater, the Roger Waters is in the stadium 5 blocks from my house.

i was at the sydney concert as well, highilght for me was set the controls for the heart of the sun and sheep which concluded the first half of the set. Even though i was about 15rows from the nose bleed the sound was perfect and roger's voice sounded great. definatly reccomend to anyone! -------------

He played here in Brazil last week. The show was great! A real superproduction... His voice is weak, I'm almost sure there was playback in Sheep... and worse than this: the singers who sung Gilmour's parts were not good... they sang well, but their voices were not half as pleasing as Mr. Gilmour's. |

Yes, Roger's voice is weaker (well, he's 63) but Jon Carin in now Mr. Pink Floyd, his voice is excellent, very similar to Dave's.
Kiliminster has a good voice but I liked more Doyle Bramhal II on In the Flesh, I saw no flaws in the concert, probably after playing in Mexico twice, Colombia,, Perú, Chile, Argentina (Two conseutive days) and Brazil also twice, his voice was waeker because in Perú he didn't used playback.
Maybe we caught him fresh still, Argentina's schedule was very hard, two 3 hours concerts in two consecutive days and in a stadium, is hard foir anybody.

I still think about the spectacle of it all - the concert [not to mention the music ] has wonderful enduring qualities and that's got to be the best test of how much you enjoyed it imo. ------------- Looking still the same after all these years... mrgd |

| I believe last night's was his last show of this tour, and I'm very glad I went! His voice was actually better than I was expecting; he only seemed to have trouble hitting a few notes. The lead guitar and saxophone solos were impeccable, and the entire performance of DSOtM was excellent. I was also very impressed by how well The Great Gig in the Sky was sung. The only drawback I thought was the setlist in the first half. |

yeah saw this about a month or 2 ago now, and jesus, the memory still lives on
without a doubt, greatest gig ive seen so far, and one'a the best nights ive had ever
id even put it ahead of seeing Dream Theater and Opeth
