mailto:M@X - M@X ,

I can't find it now, but did you not have a thread back in April 2004 or even before asking for suggestions about how to deriving the Album Suggestion List?

Why not do something similar to the Collaborator's Top 20 List, but take into account all the reviews? For example, the album (or top two albums, if possible) with the most stars for each band would be the suggestions? Just an idea.

Indeed, now that we have MORE reviews and more ratings, the data can now be used !

For each band we can have a BEST albums list .... GOOD IDEA !

For The most part i think it's dead on. Adding Foxtrot was a very good decision.

I only have two requests/ complaints:

Both Gentle Giant's "Octopus" and Yes' "Relayer" should be added.

I know that some of you admins are perticually fond of TFTO (m@x), but the general consensus seems to be that Relayer is a greater and more progressive album. Maybe remove Tales? or just add Relayer? but would that make the Yes suggestions too long? all good questions.

Also, i think that an album from the great "Collins" era of Genesis should be added:

I suggest "A Trick of The Tail".

Thanks for for taking the time to read this guys, and keep up the good work!

Disagree, there's too much Genesis and anglagard on there, suggesting something more of a fanclub something than objective research.

I agree mostly. My opinions:

Additions

  • Genesis - The Lamb
  • Gentle Giant - Octopus/In A Glass House
  • King Crimson - Larks Tongue In Aspic
  • Yes - Relayer
  • Rush - Hemispheres/A Farewell to Kings

Subtractions

  • Asia - Asia
  • Rush - 2112
  • Soft Machine - Volume 1
  • King Crimson - Lizard
  • Gentle Giant - Free Hand, The Power and the Glory

Yes....awww

Just a suggestion mailto:M@x - M@x , while creating this "key albums" section, perhaps the suggestions just be kept for prog as a whole: a sort of best of the best of all bands....?

Trout Mask Replica is a must, considering how influential it is.  And Yay! The Bio's almost finished!  It's gotta be a pretty comprehensive bio considering that you said you'd started writing it the day after I joined.

i pretty much agree, but i very much disagree with some albums losing their suggestion logos, i mean did the albums randomly stop being as good as they were before? i think you should replace the ones u took away. the ones that were added are mostly fine, tho lizard and TFTO are recieving a lot of debate.

Why does Ash Ra Tempel have 3 suggestions?.I had bought two of those suggested and didn't care for either.

I bought Contagion by Arena when it was a suggestion and loved it. Now it is no longer a Suggestion. I think the suggestion needs to be put by Contagion again. Personally I think it is stronger than Immortal? which has the Suggestion on that one.

Sorry, but no, thankyou  this album certainly needs to stay

and: maybe a suggestion for GY!BE's "Lift your skinny fists ...."?

Many people agree that it's their best and it definitely is a band that should have a suggestion

Well, I started making time for it, I guess... I'm a busy man... and a LAZY man. It's pretty big, but not as big as the Zappa bio. There are still some things I'm not happy about. It kinda sucks having to write in your second language.... I hope my final version will please everybody (although sometimes it's a little bit of a summary)...

aqualung28, I'd suggest Moonlight On Vermont ot maybe one of the Hair Pie tracks. Maybe there can be more than one track from the Trout Mask album on the site? I mean, they are short, and there are MANY...

Well bands such as The Clash, Pere Ubu, Devo, and Tom Waits were all influenced by him.  There are probably more but I will have to look into it

The Clash???! The band who went out of their way to say they didn't like prog! Don't get that.

Tom Waits: unique like Beefheart but coming from a different direction. Stands alone.

The one Devo LP I have never suggested Beefheart: so which do you suggest so I can make the link?

Have to admit you have me on Pere Ubu
