i think you've all heard of the Seven Wonders of the Antique World, of which only the pyramids of Gyza survive today. some people started a campaign for the designation of a new set of Seven Wonders (which are not necessarily modern ones) by public vote; this is their site: www.new7wonders.com they have 21 "finalists" and everyone can vote for their favorite 7 wonders. i did that just yesterday but i'm not happy with the procedure: there is no live count of the votes and also though i agree with voting the full package of 7, i'd like to see some hierarchy. for info & images check the site. ------------- "PA's own GI Joe!"

well, it's true that the first meaning of "Wonder" regards the feeling of "wonder" you get when actually encountering such a creation. just like the wonder that overwhelms you when entering the Saint Sophia or approaching the Colosseum, climbing the Eiffel tower or watching the sculpted walls of the Bangkor temple. still, i'm sure that there are such creations that bear a special meaning for you though you haven't (yet) seen them. for me some are very important because of the symbols they carry: the Statue of Liberty is dear to me because of my affection towards Liberty, Justice and Hope (-->Democracy), the Acropolis is dear to me because it stand as Thought, Ration and Industry (-->Civilization) for me, the Pyramids stand for Mystery, the Alhambra residence stands for Refinement, the Kiyomizu temple stands for communion with Nature, etc. some even bear strong symbols though are not great artistic (architectural, sculptural, decorative) or/and technical achievements ... and that's ok. my vote goes for the Saint Sophia (which i haven't yet seen but i have studied) because beyond liking it, it bears the strongest (for me) symbols: Eternal Beauty, Meaning for Life and Life after Death  actually those would also fit the Kremlin too if it wasn't for the Kremlin being also a residence for state power (--> Communism aka Terror, Fear, Poverty, Death  )so, i ask you - vote! ------------- "PA's own GI Joe!"

Mine is the Collossus of Rhodes. I wish it were still there. The Pyramids of Egypt would be next. Just think, the Egyptians did that thousands of years ago. I wish I could say Macchu Picchu in Peru, once I will visit it, it's my #1 'ancient culture wish' 
My #1 is the Alhambra in Granada (Spain), it's one of the most beautiful sites I have visited and I am glad that I have taken so many pictures
 The pyramids in Gizeh (Egypt) were also very impressive, when I stood in front of it, I realised what an incredible piece of work it must have been to build this, all those gigantic rocks
 And I would like to mention the Niagara Falls near Toronto, Canada, also very impressive and I was delighted about the eternal double rainbow above the falls

well, it seems there was some kind of a process of elimination, but i can't say more because i didn't read more, i went straight to the voting area .all i know is from a newspaper article where i found the site address; it also said that jury members were not happy with all of the 21 finalists. myself i do think that La Sagrada Familia is a wonder. ------------- "PA's own GI Joe!"

Yes, the Gaudi architecure in Barcelona is awesome, a few years ago I mixed a three days visit to Barcelona with the 'football match of the year' Barcelona againtst Real Madrid (final score 1-0, goal by Nadal):

The city of Petra is such a masterpiece of architecture... Most of the people still believes that the locations of the last sequences of Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade were created on matte or on a stage... bless my bark!!! It's a real city!!!
