Which of these two albums you prefer? They are kind of "Sister album" in many way. I vote for Hold Your fire, since this album has really grown on me. I Used to prefer Power Windows but now days it seems bit... Boring

Power Windows for me...

...IMHO, Emotion Detector has to be one of their most underrated tracksClap

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Power Windows for me.  I think it's Rush's second best 80's album, right after Moving Pictures.

Power Windows these days, although I preferred HYF at the time.

I prefer Hold Your Fire, because I love the lyrics on that album.

You're right, they are kinda like "sister albums". I guess I also consider Moving Pictures and Signals to be the same kind of pair. Not directly linked like Kings & Hemispheres, but similar in spirit... or something.

Power Windows gets my vote, but I have a soft spot for Hold Your Fire aswell.

I agree that the albums are somewhat similar, almost sister albums. In fact I used to think Rush albums came in twos! Eg: Permanent Waves & Moving Pictures, Signals & Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows & Hold Your Fire, Presto & Roll The Bones.

Power Windows was my favourite Rush album for a time, therefore it gets my vote, but I do enjoy Hold Your Fire as well.Smile

Power Windows will probably walk away with this one. I find it a bit darker and brooding.

Power Windows for me. I haven't heard all of Hold your Fire, but I have heard many of the songs, none of which compete Power Windows.

As much as I'm not a fan of later Rush, there are a few great melodic songs on PW such as Marathon and Emotion Detector that I really like

Power Windows, easily. But I still find it cold and largely unmemorable. "Mystic Rhythms" and "Marathon" are the only songs that hold up for me. 'Hold Your Fire' is just unlistenable.

i struggled with this a while before i could reply.  the "sister album" thing threw me off.  but after reading some of the posts above i have to agree there is some logic to the "pairs" notion.

my vote goes to HYF which i have always called my personal favorite.  besides, my "mission4prog" name is inspired by the lyrics from Mission, from that same album.

Power Windows is an awesome work.  and anyone who knows RUSH would have to agree that there is a certain "anything goes" type of mentality to it.  the guys clearly did not restrict themselves to elements they knew they could not (or might not be able to) play live.  and that's cool.  still, the limited variety on the album--the spare eight, somewhat similiar pieces, has been declared boring more than once and with some merit.

i agree, however, that emotion detector is underrated, as well.  good point.

HYF for me : it's my favorite Rush album and I do agree about the great lyrics.

I am pleasantly surprised that HYF stands so well in this poll : it has been so unfairly (IMHO) bashed by so many reviewers on this site... I think that most neo prog fans (Arena's fans, for instance) should like it.
